Avalon is a vector-based gui for Windows Longhorn...
In other words: It's a DirectX on vector basis...

Avalon isn't going to be in Longhorn (one of the many features touted for longhorn that got axed a few months ago so they would finish with in this decade).
MS has been talking about Avalon since NT4 (every time they changed the name), I think one of the older ones was called Cairo or something.
EDIT: Oops, I was thinking about the Database filesystem (WinFS), I'm not sure if Avalon is still supposed to be in Longhorn (I thought it was axed too, though not sure now).

WinFS is going to be only client side as far as I know, and Avalon will be a better version that is not required with Longhorn and may even work on XP. At least that is how I remeber it.SirTalon wrote:EDIT: Oops, I was thinking about the Database filesystem (WinFS), I'm not sure if Avalon is still supposed to be in Longhorn (I thought it was axed too, though not sure now).
