My idea about Directx in ReactOS

Post by kamillys »

I think that's good idea to (re)build ROS, which can use DirectX from Microsoft. Maybe it's easier than copy/rewrite DirectX from wine. It will be compatible with all Windows games. DirectX from MS will not be include into ROS of course :) .

Sorry for my English  I'm not good in English.

As was pointed out I think by frik, Microsoft's DirectX license does not permit the use of DirectX on non-genuine Windows systems.

This is only idea. But this build can be useful to implement DX1-9. All files, which aren't in DX aren't have to be modifed..

By rebuilding DirectX you also help to make Windows games run on Linux and maybe some code can get optimized to let games run faster. However it will be a very long path to follow, although educational :)

One goal of reactos is to be legal... I don't see the point to use an illegal version of directx on reactos, when you can use it on an illegal version of windows (and it will be more stable)...

DirectX 9 will still be a standard for at least another year - not everyone at home will upgrade to Vista so soon.

And there should be backward compatibility from most game companies - they're all about users playing their games on as many machines as possible.

Look at quake as an example..

DirectX from Wine is a good option on my opinion. :)
