ImageStone is a C++ library.

the 008 (which is the app you refer too) is just a small utility to demonstrate it's features

...do you mean we can include the library in the system ?

Yes, it's an MFC and it works great; what it needs to work under ROS ?

no, it's C++ and it's generally frowned upon unless there is good reason.

fortunately, MFC is not supported under ROS.

There is a ROS image program under development which will hopefully tick all your boxes

There is many Paint alternatives.
but why only a panit clone when there is gimp an PS clone for free.
http://www.gimp.org

Paint.net is an paint clone for free.
http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/
http://www.snidesoft.com/

otherwise there is very easy to make an MS paint clone.

Gimp is an alternative(?) to Photoshop or similar, nothing for normal people.

Paint.Net requiere DotNet 2, which is bloated and closed source.

Then ... please start coding such a clone in C with WinAPI and commit it to our ReactOS bugzilla.
Coding a simple drawing app in VB or similar is simple and done in a few minutes, but we need an proper app in C with WinAPI!

Edit: ... it was meant ironic, of course; we have with imagesoft already a paint/image app

It's almost usable now. As soon as I've finished my dissertation and exams (just after Christmas) I'll implement saving of images. It'll then be usable for loading images, modding the effects via the few tools now implemented and saving the results.

As ImageSoft was a project for uni, it had to follow a certain path for my academic merit, however now as it's complete as far as my uni project is concerned, I'm considering a mini overhaul of the code with the possibility of importing 3rd party libs to support a vast amount of tools.
This lib will also support:
- Libpng, for .png support.
- Zlib, for compression.
- Libjpeg, for .jpg support.
- Libtiff, for .tif support.
- Libmng, for .mng support.
- Little CMS, for colour profiles.

Some of these libs will be required in ROS at some point anyway, so I can kill 2 birds with one stone.

The software will support loading of .bmp, .cut, .dds, .doom, .gif, .ico, .jpg, .lbm, .mdl, .mng, .pal, .pbm, .pcd, .pcx, .pgm, .pic, .png, .ppm, .psd, .psp, .raw, .sgi, .tga and .tif .hdr files.

and saving of .bmp, .dds, .h, .jpg, .pal, .pbm, .pcx, .hdr, .pgm,.png, .ppm, .raw, .sgi, .tga and .tif.

This is all just an idea at the moment though, I haven't researched it yet.

This project sounds really interesting. When it's in a vaguely usable state, will you be able to provide a separate download of it somewhere so we can try it out on Windows?

i tried imagesoft and other ros apps under windows xp and many of them have bugs or don't fully work correctly. now i'll make a bug report. however, i think that these problems can be easily fixed :)

edit: bug report done

http://code.google.com/p/imagesoft
it will be developed here with the ROS SVN synched at worthwhile milestones
I will keep an executable of the current state of the source in the google code SVN.

Freeimage library is good too. http://freeimage.sourceforge.net/

Imagesoft should use it...
