Which is the best? Vmware or Qemu?
Just your opinion... any observations or stories are also welcomed
VMWare Player & Server is free.
Well VMWare Player & Server is free, so you don't have to pay or to go illegal.
Vmware wins until you move to hypervisors. Always check your processor chip if you can run a true hypervisor nothing much bets the hypervisors with hardware VM support. Qemu is not to bad. There is a lot worse bochs.sf.net anyone.
Note the Xen benchmarks http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/Research/SRG/ne ... mance.html.

Qemu because of limited functionality in vmware-player?
I think the free vmware-player is not usable for running sef-compiled trunk versions of reactos, is it?
Until now i use qemu+kqemu, being mostly satisfied with that, and sometimes real hardware mode on partition hda1 though that is a bit dangerous.
I would use vmware-player if i could use it for my own built guest reactos images, can i?

With kernel mode virtualization (see Qemu Manual), qemu is about as fast VMware, but as far as i know this doesn't currently work very well on Windows (it does on Linux). Also, kqemu is unfortunately not free software. VMware is easier to set up than qemu, which is why many people didn't yet figure out how to enable kernel mode virtualization and think that qemu+kqemu is slow, even though it isn't.
kqemu

Some precisions about this:
qemu is opensource and Gpl.
kqemu is NOT opensource and NOT Gpl.
kqemu is FREEWARE (includable obj for qemu + kernel module binary) under it's own licence terms. It's sure it is free for private use. I don't remember the licence details of kqemu.

Hi
I will mabe not be alivabe to write a replay again for some days.
Qemu and Vmware if we talk on windows
on windows is vmware faster. But Qemu have there adviace like 64bits support even on 32bits machine. vmware using always host cpu.
On linux is both qemu and vmware equal fast I think
for both using same tech using the host cpu.
Qemu have also one more advations that vmware u can emulate more that one cpu. even u only have one cpu.
Vmware have some other advace like u can select betwin ide or sisci
and some other options.
In my eyes both are equal good. and it depns what u need tested at the time. I am using most vmware to test stuff in. in some case I am using qemu for vmware can not emulate exacly same hardware as qemu have.
