Plans for Windows 3.1 32-bit subsystem?

Post by dorishuntt »

I'm just curious what (if any) plans there are for a Win 3.1 32-bit subsystem like NT/2000/XP's. A while back I was looking through my hard drive for apps to test with ReactOS and I surprised myself with how many 32-bit applications I have and even still use!

I guess you ask for a 16 Bit Subsystem? Windows 3.1 is 16 Bit. ReactOS itself has a 32 Bit version by default that ONLY runs 32 Bit apps and a 64 Bit version that ONLY runs 64 Bit apps right now. There we still have need for a WoW subsystem running the 32 Bit app for us.

Back to the question. For 16 Bit apps to run, try this one: https://github.com/otya128/winevdm

Last time I tried it it worked fin in ROS
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

If my post/reply offends or insults you, be sure that you know what sarcasm is...

Mmm, interesting, I'll take a look at it later. Reactos can run 16-bit applications, but they must be DOS-only applications, Windows applications of this type do not work.

It would be nice if they had native support for 16-bit applications, both text-only apps (I've seen DOS games work too) and Windows 3.1 applications, that would be great as Reactos would revive a lot of retro software.
