Driver Needed Detection

Post by wpeckham »

One thing I am looking for is a procedure or process for determining what drives are needed to properly support specific hardware.

It is WONDERFUL that ReactOS is MS driver compatible, but when installing ReactOS it would help if we could detect or list the drivers needed, so we could figure out what to SEARCH for as a driver set for the hardware involved. Right now the common thing is for a few experts to load the drivers they need, and everyone else to see how it runs with no drivers added, and little in between.

One should not need 30 years of experience to use this OS properly!

If the infrastructure within the OS will still change, it might make sense to WAIT on developing such a procedure, but I feel it is important not to IGNORE that need.

Where does this stand? Has anyone a solution that works now?

I think you have a wrong idea of the current state of ReactOS. A little research beforehand might have helped you as the post discloses your lack of preparation.

You shouldn't be using ReactOS at all.

Why? ReactOS is in alpha state, ie. incomplete and unfinished at all levels and into its very core. You should only be using it to test what works and what does not. You should only be doing this for test purposes to assist the developers or for fun.

Feel free to discover what does work at this stage by testing it and more importantly, what does not.

Read the ReactOS wiki FAQ before you do anything else. Then feel free to join in chat at Mattermost to get some further discussion going. It is important to lower your expectations as to what ReactOS can do and then realise that any test is a success at this stage, even if it only proves something does not work. ReactOS is Alpha grade and treat it as such.

ReactOS 0.4.14 is still in the alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.
hi
if you know the model number of your motherboard then you can go to the motherboard manufacturer's webpage to find out what drivers you will need to find assuming ReactOS boots on the hardware and you can find drivers for windows 2003 for the hardware and drivers install
