What this does is prove that old theory that people often speak (and now write) without engaging their brains first.

Now chap, we are going to ask you to engage your brain and take another look at ReactOs this time with the brain fully activated and working. What is your time until fully booted? When ready, start to read:

ReactOS is built to implement Windows exactly. Therefore you will find all the components that Windows has, some of them complete but not all. Functionally it will be exactly the same as Windows. Which Windows? Windows server 2003/XP is the target and the look and feel will aim to emulate that.

If your yet uninitialised brain confuses ReactOS icons and adversely compares them with those in use in Windows XP then do understand that those are a FOSS icon set created by someone like you or me, here is an example of some created by me: https://www.deviantart.com/yereverluvin ... -and-icons. As these are FOSS we can use them without breaking copyright. ReactOS cannot use the original icons from Windows as they are not FOSS.

You can, when your brain is fully initialised create a set of your own and then implement them within ReactOS yourself. It is all down to your own creative skills. When our brains have finished their boot sequences and are fully online, I am sure you will begin to appreciate this.

I think Sand knows what ReactOS is by now. But Sand needs to explain the meaning of this post.

if you mean some icons look, then make the better looking, it would be appreciated. other, than that, you are wrong, ReactOS is nothing like linux. btw, where people, that can do all these icons/logos hang out on the Internet? devianart? I see, d1zt3mp3r showed a link to that resource, never was there, but it's interesting - I want some of such stuff for my own projects. you pay, they draw, and there is nothing disappointing, until it's time to pay and you (like me ) have no dough. :D

I have made some Linux icons before for a distro I was contributing to. I would love to contribute icons to ReactOS. How can I do this though, since icons in Windows are embedded into the DLLs? Does ReactOS have a means for a user to select one iconset over another? I know Windows doesn't. I have scripts that automaticaly create a Freedesktop icon tree for my icon sets. I will need to convert them into Windows *.ico files but that wouldn't be too hard.

You have a pm where I share my ideas regarding icons.

oh, that's good, that you want to contribute. you are better off to ask this question here https://chat.reactos.org/reactos/channels/town-square
since I suck on GUI stuff, and let's be honest - not ready yet to hack ReactOS kernel as well (git and cmake make me feel a jellyfish  ), - I can't help more, than agreeing, that probably yes, icons are stored as bitmap images as resources inside some PE images (shell32.dll?) and since ROS is open source, it's doable, - to replace stock images with your own, ask gurus on the chat.

OK, I have no clue what causes this discussion out of nowhere and NOTHING, but the thread hijacking, even if it's the only thing giving this post a reason to really exist, is not ok if we follow our rules. So I split things off the troll post. Happy discussing.
