Using Uno Platform to enable running UWP programs on non-Windows OSes

Post by WorldBlender »

Github repository: https://github.com/unoplatform/uno

A few weeks ago, I have encountered the Uno Platform, "a Universal Windows Platform Bridge that allows UWP-based code (C# and XAML) to run on iOS, Android, macOS, WebAssembly, Linux and Windows 7." It is currently the only feasible solution for getting UWP programs to run outside of Windows platforms, and it is also free/open-source under the Apache 2.0 License.

However, Uno currently does not support Windows OSes older than 7, so ReactOS in its current state is also unsupported. Supported platforms:
  • Windows 10 (via the standard UWP Toolkit)
  • Windows 7 (via Skia)
  • iOS, macOS and Android (via Xamarin)
  • WebAssembly through the Mono Wasm SDK
  • Linux through Skia
However, this project may be worth keeping an eye on in the near future, as it could give another reason for those stuck on Windows 8.1 or 10 to migrate.

Excellent find, the more software we can run the more useful ROS will be.

I do not think the Uno Platform will be of any use for ReactOS it looks like it is a framework that apps need to be developed using it I do not think you can take for example Minecraft windows 10 edition and run it using the Uno Platform
