Re: Hi, how about reactOS for servers?
And what would be the difference compared to the current state of ReactOS?
Re: Hi, how about reactOS for servers?
It's only a matter of configuration as it's replied by a Microsoft employee. https://youtu.be/dQ5927pDpfw

ReactOS for Servers would require stability and no data loss. ReactOS being Alpha, provides both instability and data loss, not a good combination - but when it leaves Alpha it would be interesting to test, with the idea that one day in the far future, it could be practical.

I feel more of a server would be a customization.
-Headless mode
-Lightweight (turning off functions)

data loss may be already improved with the transition to btrfsdizt3mp3r wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 4:26 pm ReactOS for Servers would require stability and no data loss. stability is the key question, but I consider more important the SMP feature, is very useless to buy a multicore server and only make use of one of these.
Re: Hi, how about reactOS for servers?
Microsoft Server 2003 is effectively a superset of Microsoft Windows XP. Server 2003 includes necessary server features that Windows XP lacks.ReactOS FAQ, What is ReactOS? wrote:ReactOS aims to... NT5 (Server 2003) as its main target....
Experimenters can configure ReactOS as a server or as a workstation. However at the present time ReactOS is alpha software. "Alpha software may contain serious errors, and any resulting instability could cause crashes or data loss." (Wikipedia)
Re: Hi, how about reactOS for servers?
What would "necessary server features" be? ReactOS has file sharing and MySQL and nginx run on it; that's a "server" by my definition.
Re: Hi, how about reactOS for servers?
There is a nice summary here mentioning the differences between Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 : https://confidentialfiles.wordpress.com ... rver-2003/
The last part is about the server roles one can install on a Windows Server 2003. Everything before that is either a trivial configuration change between XP & Server 2003 or not applicable to ReactOS, such as Windows Media Player, Windows Messenger or IE Enhanced Security.
