For this you would better have the Cache manager code (in the kernel) working instead :D
The SATA AHCI stuff is for ReactOS to be able to support more types of HDDs...

I suggest to keep in touch with Ville Turjanmaa (the dev behind MenuetOS) that is working - at ASM level - on sata driver too: http://menuetos.net/contact.htm

And of course a collaboration with Alexander A. Telyatnikov (the Universal ATA driver dev) would be great.

Actually, it supports the controllers/motherboards. Newer boards have AHCI instead of ATA, and there may be a time when ATA emulation is removed too. The hard drive itself doesn't care if the controller or motherboard it is plugged into supports IDE (or IDE emulation), RAID, AHCI, or what. However, the operating system does. The problem is that newer boards with AHCI don't have 2003 or even XP compatible drivers.

Also, there's the migration factor. If you have multiple OSs installed, then you need to have them all use the same IO mode (unless you want to change the CMOS/NVRAM each time you use the other OS).

Does anyone know the status on this driver or developer?
