I'm not sure if the source exists. Someone may have to rewrite it. :D

There is no known plan for another 0.3.x release before 0.4 arrives, so (technically) it won't happen before 0.4.

https://reactos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12293 -> I think no sources were released, so it's useless for ROS. There was a JIRA issue and a Wiki page created, but these are gone now.

This is not needed for 0.4 at all. 0.4 is still a alpha release and we have a locked list of stuff we have to fix for 0.4 and search is not in it i fear
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

Maybe. Maybe not. 0.4 is still far off and so far, no releases in 2015. :|

I personally think there should be at least a release this year, and screw auto-imposed versioning restrictions.
Who cares about numbers? Just release a standard build every three months with a changelog and stay free of release constriction.

See? Easy, tangible results in timely fashion.

Several developers and a portion of PR refuses to do a formal release with the new shell that is not .0.4.0. Another group of developers and another portion of PR (including me before I went on sabbatical) refuse to allow a 0.4.0 release that does not iron out a few critical bugs in places like the memory manager and pnp. It basically boils down to a disagreement about at what standard of quality 0.4.0 should be held at. Some people think that the new shiny features are sufficient, others insist that the new features won't really be noteworthy if the system is at risk of crashes from some fundamental memory corruption.

The problem with the utopic 0.4 milestone is that if you put yourself the bar too high there's the risk of jumping and failing serendipitously late, very late. I still think that the difference between what we have now in TRUNK is light years better than the previous release and that everyone, from press to illustrated Youtube armchair commenters, will be pleasantly surprised.

We all know how bad humans are at predicting. Let's not talk about an open source project without even a fuzzy roadmap or developer tasking.

If all the team wanted to do was showcase new features we could have cut a 0.3.18 at the start of the year. Showing off new features however does not constitute a milestone and if ReactOS wants its releases to be anything more than a mere showcase that is immediately forgotten afterward, it needs to reach a point where the base system does not pose a risk undermining each release. There is little point to a rapid release cycle if every other release is half broken, which was what happened during the early stages of 0.3.x. And then there was the mshtml bug that stuck with us for months and months, always cropping back up before finally a fix to the memory manager and common cache nailed it, we hope at least. It's to avoid that kind of repeat that I opposed doing a release before something was done about the memory manager because it doesn't matter how many new features are added if the ability to use said features is compromised by the instability of the base operating system. The team could go ahead and cut a 0.4.0 now if they so wanted, but they would be doing so without my assistance since at this point my position remains that ReactOS is not ready for that bump. And it is especially not ready for any attempt at some kind of rapid release cycle afterward. I want ReactOS after 0.4.0 to be something that you can actually stick on a VM and actually have a shot at using on a regular basis. I do not want the post 0.4.0 releases to basically be a repeat of the 0.3.x series where things kinda sorta worked but the only reason to ever fire up ReactOS was to test if something was broken or not.

Maybe we should do testing on a certain part of ReactOS?

Maybe like November could be the shell and we find/fix bugs.
And then in December, win32k

etc.

But that would probably slow down development even more. Just a random thought.

Or maybe have an all out bug hunt/fix using one revision. I know it's been done with the shell. Perhaps even suggest apps users could use to test? Again, another random idea.

Well, testers and end users might not know how to test on a per-component basis, and we don't want to tie up the developers. I guess if someone wanted to test various components in Windows 2003, or XP SP3 if nothing else, that could give insight into where ROS is non-conformant.

Having a fix-a-thon does sound interesting. And probably, testing common apps would likely be the most practical.
