If you're on OSX, then you should be able to use screen to connect to serial.

Marzz,
Having read that there had been some fixes for several programmes that were failing to run, I down-loaded the latest revision (61848) and tried again to run OpenBUGS, but it failed.

I found the down-load link and tested BlackBOX and got the same results; it failed to run.

The debug log for both programmes is showing the same "fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000004".

So here https://jira.reactos.org/browse/CORE-7818 is the bug report. You can add your own findings and comments. You can also attach your own debug log(s).

The other bad news is, that, having down-loaded the latest JDK, that also fails with a bsod, near the end of the installation and causes Ros to bsod on re-booting. I have not yet tried to install the JRE, which I also down-loaded at the same time.

The report for Java is here https://jira.reactos.org/browse/CORE-7817.

The version of Java that I have been able to install for a long time now, is 'JDK 6u24'.
Please keep the Windows classic (9x/2000) look and feel.
The layman's guides to - debugging - bug reporting - compiling - ISO remaster.
They may help you with a problem, so do have a look at them.

Updated release candidate: http://sourceforge.net/projects/reactos ... p/download

We've had some instabilities float about (including in my own testing) and I'd like to get a second opinion. Especially people on VMWare.

Just tested VirtualBox Guest Additions 4.3.6 install.

The graphics adapter installed.
The audio adapter did not install.
Tried the AC97 Driver for VirtualBox from the Application Manager but it also did not get my audio working.

One issue with the installer is that In many places the text was replaced with boxes. So instead of saying next it said □□□□□

Couple of screenshots to show problem.

http://www.reactos.org/wiki/Tests_for_0.3.15

I tested many applications with 0.3.15's release version and I sent to the page them. Is it relevant?

Well, the more the merrier, of course. But...we're now at 0.3.16 RC2. Maybe it's a bit more useful to test that one out, thus?

For the moment, i can only test Reactos with MobaLiveCd_2.1 (test iso).
I'm trying to run Reactos : version livecd : 61852, 61888 and 61899 but each time, i'm staying in the same file and so, nothing continued.

The last file charged on the "gray screen" is (any version) :
multi(0)disk(0)cdrom(96)\reactos\system32\drivers\cdfs.sys

In the start menu, i'm using the option "Live CD (debug)".

However, if i'm using the option "Live CD", i have the following error:
Blue screen of death ... lol
*** Stop: 0x0000007E (0x80000003,0x8094f352,0xF78D236C,0xF78D2004)
*** NTOSKRNL.exe - Address 8094F352 base at 80800000, Datestamp 52ece502

Concerning my computer (chipset, ...):
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/870A-Fuzion.html
It is based on AMD chipset 770 !! (different same models not compatible)

Well, I've tested it out some, again on RH, the configuration being the same as described here: https://www.reactos.org/wiki/PC_ROS_Rigs

New default shell seems nice, though the icon in the left corner of each opened windows seems a bit weird in default resolution. I also note that the confusing extra 'X' of the 'inner window' has gone. The drawback of that, of course, is that there is no way of going back to the former opened windows (since any new windows when opened from the former just covers the original one). And the green arrows still do nothing. I noticed though, that the extra 'x' is still there, but now invisible; you have to click on the border under the main frame in the right corner, where nothing is to be seen, but it's there nevertheless. This makes little sense.

I would suggest the following; get rid of the extra 'x' there, and put the functionality of it under the green 'go back' arrow-icon. Yes, that wouldn't help the 'go forward again' green arrow, since you would be merely closing the existing window, but...none of the green arrows are working anyway, currently. And since closing the latest window let you see the former window, it's as good as 'going back'.

The windows when opening and moving around still feel as sluggish, though. When closing or doing some action, the windows (or the icons on them) sometimes turn black for a while (even just hovering over an icon can make it black).

As for the usb; while it used to not recognise or do anything when I put in an usb-stick it now...crashes when I open 'my computer' a second time while my usb is in it (not when it's not), and gives me a bsod. So, in way, I guess this is...progress?

I'm not sure what else is new, because the rest seemed pretty much to work as the former one, and aside from the shell, I don't see anything really eye-catching new. Is there something specific that we should focus on that differs from last iteration?

The state of USB in 0.3.16 is not going to change. The request to test USB was in relation to trunk only and also intended to feed into long term work. It was never intended for getting immediate improvements into 0.3.16.

Shell changes are also unlikely at this point. Short of an outright failure, the current shell will be seeing no further development. For that matter, it hasn't seen any actual work on it for years now besides very small fixes. I also have a very big stick for making sure this is the last release with this shell.

If you're not seeing any changes in the second RC, then the level of regression would be considered acceptable and we can release as is unless a last minute major fix appears.

I have installed this RC in a VM on VirtualBox.

After installing the Guest additions the start menu and the windows looked weird, so I have uninstalled it.

After restart, this blue screen appears

This is the debug

After prompt similar to

Code: Select all

Entered debugger on last-chance exception (Exception Code: 0xc0000005) (Page Fault)
Memory at 0x004057DE could not be read: Page not present.
kdb:>
shows up, please write 'bt' and press enter in your frozen VM:

Code: Select all

kdb:> bt

It produces some more useful info for developers into the log (it may ask you to press a key to print next part of the output, which is desirable).

Also: when I 'personalise' my PC (aka, change the keyboard, language, time etc. to match where I live and what I use) it simply hangs (mouse still moves, but for the rest it just goes nowhere).

But that too, was already the case in all former versions of ROS, so it can hardly be called a regression. (When I use the standard/default English-US one, it works, but this still is pretty annoying, though).

Why you release 0.3.16 in hurry? The pages (http://www.reactos.org/wiki/0.3.16 and http://www.reactos.org/wiki/ChangeLog-0.3.16) are incompleted.

ADDING:

My impressions of this release:
  • There is only one wallpapaer in the ISO's.
  • LiveCD crashes on starting on VBox 4.3.6.
NOTE: In my opinion, "Enabling the Lautus theme causes non-Latin characters to be printed as blocks." and "Installation on VMware with a USB controller causes a blue screen." should be blocks the releasing. 0.3.16 should be re-release.
