lol, the color combination and the 's' on the breast let this one a little bit look like a nazi bear. :D

This is very bad PR...

Really is a "re-comunist" bear (as ReactOS main coordinator is Russian), he think "re-comunizing people for an open source re-release of a well known common OS", the simbols on the breast represents an electric power and a microchip (an obvious contemporean revision from the old comunist simbols), also a bear is an animal representation of Rusia. And his name is Tebeartos (Te from "Teddy", rest is obvious but beartos is similar to reactos).

Yes, any reference whit soviet union/china comunism is a bad taste... well really is a bad taste whit any country of the world.

Road Runner for Mascot for ReactOS?

Post by tomleem »

I think a road runner would be an excellent mascot for ReactOS. It is small, lightweight and fast. Three things one might associate with ReactOS; small in that it does not take up a lot of space, light weight in that it is not a resource hog and fast in that uses less memory.

Kiwi Bird for Mascot for ReactOS?

How about a kiwi bird for the mascot for ReactOS?

It is small, like ReactOS. Neither take up a lot of space or require a lot. 8-)

That is one butt-ugly bird. If we have to use a bird, I vote for the Atlantic Puffin.

The puffin is an incredibly versatile bird. It can fly, swim underwater, and it's not useless on land. It looks a bit like a penguin, but it can do things that penguins can't do.

A penguin is the symbol of Linux and, thus, is associated with FOSS in general. I think it looks just different enough that people won't confuse it with a penguin -- obviously penguins can't fly. A puffin evokes the idea of an operating system with the versatility of Windows and the open source nature of Linux. (We could change the colors on the beak to match the red, green, blue and yellow of the Windows logo to really make the point.) Plus they're adorable and everybody loves them.

As for the ugly duckling, as much as I don't care to look at that, I guess that is a fair assessment of ROS right now - ugly (inside) and incomplete.

While the puffin is nicer looking, the kiwi seems to be on the endangered list. The real life bird seems cuter than the plush version.

That's a sad tale indeed. So many of the wonderful creatures that lived only in Australia and New Zealand are in the same position.

As much as I feel for the plight of the kiwi bird, I don't know if associating ReactOS with near-extinction is the message we're going for.

Fish Mascot for ReactOS

Post by tomleem »

Perhaps either a sardine or an anchovie? :D Either are small and don't use much space; like ROS. 8-) Both are a little fishy.
