I did it for me personal and reactos-german.de also did it. I Tweeted about it, we don't have many followers but I hope that someone will RT it.

I did a couple of days ago too.
Seems there is a commercial project with lot of voters
We'll have to do our best, 20 days is a loong time.

Red Hat
OpenOffice
LibreOffice
Wine

Only Red Hat is directly commercial. Ubuntu and LibreOffice sell support, not the product, and Wine and OpenOffice have companies backing them up which sell products based on them, but with proprietary additions, and the open source products themselves are not commercial.vicmarcal wrote:Ubuntualfanak.net wrote:How a commercial project can be opensource?vicmarcal wrote:Seems there is a commercial project with lot of voters

Sure I just stated that it is a "Commercial" project not a "Commercial" product.mrugiero wrote: Only Red Hat is directly commercial. Opensource projects can be "Commercial" projects in,at least, two different ways:
1)Selling the Product: Binary versions, aka source code perfectly compiled,on-demand, ready to be installed, sent packaged to home, plus manuals, etc...
2)Selling Services: Client Support, Tech, Certifications, related services, etc
Others:
3)Advertising: Placing advs in the product.
4)Data mining: Letting the company to record all your movements and use them for statistics(Android?)
And i could keep adding a couple more hehe...
Because my real work, I become somekind of a Business Model expert, mainly focused at Opensource Business Models. So if anyone is interested in details, we can share thoughts
Btw, Wine has a company backing it up, but really it become the other way around: Wine's devs created a company in order to backup the project called "CodeWeavers". Basically they are trying to find, and finding, a market niche in order to support WINE.
In the other hand, Transgaming, a company (ab)used from WINE code(from a NON_LGPL era) and they sell that closed source product.

what about reactos, is it a comercial project too?

4)Data mining: Letting to record some movements installing apps and use them for statistics(ReactOS app manager?)4)Data mining: Letting the company to record all your movements and use them for statistics(Android?)
Re: Vote for ReactOS to be the project of june!
I don't think so. Even when I do not care about sharing some data, it's considered "evil" by a lot of people. ReactOS is not popular enough to want that kind of advertising.mametoc wrote:4)Data mining: Letting to record some movements installing apps and use them for statistics(ReactOS app manager?)4)Data mining: Letting the company to record all your movements and use them for statistics(Android?)
I think the way to go for ReactOS is selling support or something like that, if it is to be a commercial project.

I think the way to go for Android is selling support or something like that, if it is to be a big corporation.
Re: Vote for ReactOS to be the project of june!
Hmmm, for a start, Android is targeted to be embeded in mobile devices. Users doesn't really have much choices about that, you either use Windows Mobile, iOS or Android, and whichever you use, comes with the device. ReatOS, in the other hand, will probably be installed on demand.
Maybe it's few people. But it's the same kind of few people (geeks, mostly) who are to promote ReactOS.
