One idea that might help there is the new "play through" technology. Instead of CAPTCHA, there are simple games to play to get in. Yes, a computer could probably be programmed to beat it, but with statistical analysis and play analysis, differences in play can be detected between bots and humans.swight wrote:The dynamic image idea is not really useful anymore in my opinion. There are ways around that that are quite simple to program a bot to do.
For a long time you could secure against a bot while not against a human but technology and society has gotten to a point where I don't think it is possible if you are facing an experienced bot creator that knows how to take advantage. I would say more but I don't want to give the local spam bots any hints.

That sounds like it could work if it could be guaranteed that it can't be mimicked(maybe through a very strong random that effects play).
The random would also need to produce a large number of values that produce unique effects.

An idea against Spambots:
I'd say, use the fact that humans can solve MANY things while machines can solve CERTAIN things (then, however, very well). E.g. you could use some form of two-factor-authentication which needs some understanding of how the two factors relate in some non-obvious way. If that is STILL circumvented, you will know that actually humans are getting through (which is very likely, if you have to do with users from very poor countries).
E.g.:
2 + 2 = ? TYPE THIS IN THE SECOND TEXT-BOX, NOT THE ONE BELOW!
[ textbox ]
3 - 1 = ? TYPE THIS IN THE FIRST BOX ABOVE!
[ textbox ]
The correct solution would be:
[ 2 ]
[ 4 ]
and not:
[ 4 ]
[ 2 ]
- You can make any variation, as long as you rely on human general intelligence and not on ONE factor that a machine can master.

Accounts used later by spambots are sometimes being registered by a spammer himself and then its details would be used by an app to make processof spamming completely automatic from this point.

Full list of Apps/Drivers in compatible database, i only see lastest submissions, ¿i forgot something or it's as is?.
Re: Website Revamp: Your feedback is very needed !
This might be nick-picking but Shouldnt the "Navigation" and "quicklinks" boxes be switched?
This way you can always have static buttons to push and the box below it is the context button other than having the quicklinks button move around every time because the navigation buttons change in shape per link.

I posted a bug on this before. I think it was resolved as won't fix. can't be sure since my link to the web page specific bug reporting page is dead. I also mentioned it in a post on the second page of this topic.

A captcha like this should take care of both: [ external image ]Pisarz wrote:Accounts used later by spambots are sometimes being registered by a spammer himself and then its details would be used by an app to make processof spamming completely automatic from this point.

Instead of proving that indeed the inverse Fourier Transformation of the Fourier Transform of a function, gives the initial function (if it is L1(R) or L2(R)), you can set this kind of captcha:
Do the following exercise :

ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

Equations are probably a poor defense as it is forced to make an assumption about who is better at solving which equations that may fail based on several factors such as previous experience with the problem. I still think it is unlikely that we could find anything that would effectively shut down all bots. The best possibility would probably be making them harder to create.

I'm playing now with the D7-based website engine, located at http://playground.reactos.org.
* Already wrote a special password hashes converter yesterday in C#, so now you can log in using your reactos.org login and password
* Connected the PlayThru captcha (but currently, the new users registration on the playground website is disabled).
* Updated everything to the newest versions
* Removed Bugzilla bridge, as it's not needed anymore at all
* Slightly changed the visual theme so it doesn't have weird looking menu boxes
* Configured and tested translations
Known things:
* Forums, Wiki, and some links are not supposed to work now
* Content is not up to date
* It's slow because of "debugging mode" turned on
* Don't use "Reset password" feature.
Mainly it's to see how good D7 is compared to T3. As I don't know T3 at all, I started playing with what I know most - D7.

That's what I see opening forum post on the "new" web site.
Any other forum I've ever visited has never shown such garbage.

Re: Website Revamp: Your feedback is very needed !
From now on, please, let's specify the actual site you're looking to (I had to guess it's pg-main.reactos.org, the one made with Typo3). however, indeed you're right, the data there is broken.
As of now, you can have a look at Drupal 7 version, there forums don't exist yet at all But other things should work.
