It's probably not very helpful, since he can use a proxy server, unless you search for the IP's of the proxy servers and block them.

Thinking about it, it doesn't really make sense that anyone who has just registered can immediately edit any page of the Wiki.

What would be logical would be to have at least two 'groups':

- trusted accounts: individuals who have proven to be reliable.

- newly joined: new accounts, who are allowed to edit pages, but their changes are reviewed and accepted/rejected by administrators/moderators (from the other group). Once found to be reliable enough, they're promoted to the 'trusted accounts'-group.

Does the currently used Wiki support such a system?

This will be implemented in MediaWiki 1.5, I think... Just check the information on MetaWiki for the roadmap, and other things about MediaWiki...
