Darwin, Apple and Max OS X

Post by mrugiero »

...I still think someone should take this to another level and build an open-source Mac OS X out of this.
But Mac OS X uses FreeBSD as core :P

MOD NOTE: splitted and moved to off-topic accordingly.

Darwin is based on FreeBSD and NeXTSTEP, and is pretty much the core of Mac OS X that everything else is built upon. The reason it can't run Mac OS X programs is that it doesn't have the Ccocoa or Carbon APIs, and it lacks the Aqua interface and Quartz compositor.

It's easy to get mixed up. It took me a while to figure out all the components of Mac OS X, too, since I haven't used one since the System 7 days.

By the way, your English isn't that bad. It's more readable than the average American text message. I wouldn't have known that you were new to typing in English if you didn't say anything. I can't say the same for my Spanish skills.

For future reference, you might want to take note that in English, languages, ethnicity, and nationalities are capitalized, unlike in Spanish. For example, "I'm an American, and I speak English." (I'm assuming you're a Spanish speaker, since you're profile says you're most active on the Spanish forums.)

It appears you joined the forums last month, so "¡Bienvenido a ReactOS!"
