FutureAlpha OS

Post by linooxlee » Sat Mar 21, 2009 5:14 am

FutureAlpha OS project started in 2006. FutureAlpha V2.0 was released on Jan 2,2008. FutureAlpha V3.0 will be released in 2009. The Windows API and Linux API will be ported into the FutureAlpha kernel via the same way of Linux unified kernel. So, I think FutureAlpha OS maybe relate with ReactOS.

download FutureAlpha V2.0 :

Virtual PC version http://www.sinomanic.com/download/FA_vpc.rar

That's how it looks.

V is more likely 0.2.0…

I think that the language is Chinese, not Japanese. Though written Japanese does use Chinese characters ("Kanji"), sentences will usually contain a few kana (hiragana and katakana) characters as well. (See here for more information).

Sinomanic is a company in China. A guy implement a OS kernel and release it in a web OS forum in 2007. Sinomanec employs him and constitute a team included over 30 developers to develope FutureAlpha based on the guy's OS kernel in Aug 2007. That is all of the story of FutureAlpha.

FutureAlpha operating systems include two major parts: the core and the graphical user interface. Kernel has two versions, one is more mature core for x86 system, one is being developed Godson-core CPU system. graphical user interface module is a cross-hardware platform design, it can run on the both CPU systems.

Kernel is the core of the operating system, at present, FutureAlpha operating system kernel can be divided into four: memory management; process management; file system layer, equipment management. Each run are independent threads, each thread in the case of default are independent address space, thus ensuring the independence of threads to enhance the ability to prevent the collapse of dangerous.

Two cores are witty message communications, multi-threaded switch capacity, page-style memory management, equipment, standard interfaces and file system interface. Thread switch using LAZY MODE, both at a time when there is a need to switch, no mission stop switch, thereby reducing the waste of system resources to ensure efficient work of the highest. At the same time, the use of CPU hardware switching function, to speed up the switching speed of the thread. Memory management page table mode to support the virtual memory technique. File System currently supports the FAT16, FAT32 file system.

At core memory requirements, FutureAlpha can run on only 4MB of memory.

Linux Unified Kernel is develeped by a Chinese company too. Unified kernel version 0.2.4 will be released with the files system integration module in Apr 2009. Thanks ReactOS.

Linux Unified Kernel is named as Longene ( a sort of tea which is planted in Hangzhou China).

the English forum of Linux unified kernel is available: http://www.longene.org/forum/forum_en.php

I doubt they will ever contribute anything upstream. They`ll probably only leech off our code, just like LUK, without anything in return.

Wait... they may ask us questions, like LUK team did, about how to implement WDM framework in Linux Unified.

Is this even open source? If it isn't, how could ReactOS even benefit from this? If this Linux-based, then they're probably better off working with Wine. No insult to linooxlee, but it sounds like it's a one way deal - Sinomanic using ReactOS code for their commercial use.

Isn't that against the GPL?

* No GPL doesn't prohibit commercial usage, in fact IBM is making one billion of turnover with Linux.
* BTW FutureAlphaOS could be downloadable from their web site so I don't see where is the problem.
* And about the one way process Reactos riped a lot of Open source projects, between 20 and 30, so I don't see how it could complain?
Most of time it's impossible to contribute back anyway because everything is so different between Linux world and Windows.

1. Using GPL code in other closed-source application is license violation.
2. Providing paid support or other services for GPL is not license violation.
3. In context of using GPL code in other GPL application, "ripping off" is contradiction as large as it can get.

There is no evidence that they use Linux, ReactOS, or other code which is licensed under GPL, in their OS. So, considered innocent until proven guilty…
