Why does every one seem to think linux is the answer. IT isn't for every one especially for people who like play games.

How about Mac OS X then? You need Mac hardware and it isn't for someone who builds their own computer, but for updates it's pretty quick and non-intrusive. Better OS than Linux anyway.

Or just use Win 2000 or Win XP with updates turned off. You can install updates every month or whenever you want.

Mac OS X also isnt a system you could use for gaming...

Its quite easy to disable Automatic Updates and Background Intelligent Transfer Service, only to enable them once a month during Patch Tuesday (and disabling them right after getting the updates).

Second thing is to use a decent IDS and AV software, and NOT TO USE IE, especially for webpages that cannot be trusted.

If your hardware is ok and your drivers stable, your life will get a lot calmer and really boring.

As time goes on, that statement gets less and less true. There are already high end games for Mac from id and EA. MS Flight simulator is replaced by X-Plane. etc.

And for any games still windows-only, you can duel boot the mac for win (separate from all your important files) or you can use a compatibility layer like cross-over.

Mac OS X = Unix

Also mac is good for gaming, but only because game makers are porting their games for Mac as it is a fast growing user PC, the only reason all games are for windows is that it is the largest and most widely used, therefore thats where the money is.

i think that when ReactOS becomes stable many people will switch from Windows to ROS, and also from Linux to ROS

CrossOver is not a gaming compatibility layer. It is specialized on running MS Office, not games. Maybe you meant Cedega

while waiting ReactOS future stable i use WinXP turbo edition (nLited) and i have terminated all dangers by BillG: update, software driver check from internet, crash reporting and lot of "security holes" that connects to BillG.

elhoir sorry to say cross-over is a gaming and Office layer. But most of the gaming patches make it into the open source project cross-over supports first Wine.

Cedega and Cross-over have about equal game support. They don't overlap with each other that much. Reason Cedega and Cross-over have completely different Direct x systems.

I more expect a fuse of some form. Reactos and Linux running side by side.

OS/2 to ROS?

There might be some switching from OS/2 to ROS since IBM has dropped developement of it and one does not know how long eCS will be around. Some might switch till there is an OS/2 clone like Voyager or OSFree is developed to the point where it replaces OS/2-eCS.

ReactOS' end

If MSFT would silently update your ROS, finally, ReactOS will have been hibernated until ######(sharp symbols indicate a date, that is illegal to say here). After that date, WinXP'll be completely free of any charges to MSFT.
