Asus Eee $200-$300 dollar laptop

This or something like it would be awesome with ReactOS on it - very portable ReactOS on the go. While not exactly a powerhouse, for $200 for the 4 GB version, I'd say pairing it with ReactOS in the future would make this quite the steal.

The only hurdle would be installing via USB methods since it doesn't have an internal cd-rom (or the good old floppy disks). It does have built in ethernet and WiFi so there might be some solutions there such as booting over the network. Booting by USB is becoming more common everyday so a bootable ReactOS installer on say a flash drive would make converting this thing to ReactOS a snap when ROS gets out of beta. Pre-installed would be even better but that would be farther down the road, though we can dream can't we?

Bullshit. Linux AND WinXP compatible. It may run if you manage to install without a cd drive

Exactly....
As long as it`s x86 cpu, IDE/PATA hdd and VESA compatible graphics, it has the same chance of working as any PC rig.

If the laptop supports HDD/USB emulation (I only try with PheonixBIOS), then get a copy of the HP USB format utility, choose "Create DOS bootdisk", format, format again (delete the DOS stuff), install ReactOS to the disk, and it is bootable.

I had a Dell C600 laptop, that would lock up on the installer pre 3.3RC1. (Works with 3.3RC1, but that's another story).
Just for fun, I installed bochs on a linux partition, then ran it using a cdrom image for the cdrom drive, and /dev/hda as the main system. Installed ok.
Then rebooted, and booted that partition. Ran ok (until I put a CD into the system, but again, another story).

http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3829 Another review of the EEE PC.
If one could use a USB thumb drive or usb cd drive to install ROS, I could see it being very useful on it. I see ROS as being more practical than Linux.

There is suppose to be instructions on how to install WinXP on it. I think one could probably use these instructions to install ReactOS. 8) It would probably work better than Windows. 8)

It is not easy to touch type on it; at least with my big fingers.
The screen is kinda small but still viewable. It is a neat little device.
It does not come with WinXP but does come with a cd wit the drivers. 8)
EEE-PC with Windows

I like the idea of an EEE-PC. As a desktop system I use oldtimers like my 566 MHz / 384 MB Ram - System. I don't need more power to get my work done. Further I support some friends wich use their PCs only for Internet (surfing around, writing e-mails) and typing letters. A Windows(r) 98 - system would be good enough for them - but for security reasons (it is no longer supported, neither by it's manufacturer nor by anti-virus-software and firewall manufacturers) i have to switch them on Windows(r) XP(r). (My nightmare is to switch them on Windows(r) Vista(r) *) - because that means they need new hardware and it may be different from what they knew!)
ReactOS would be perfect for a EEE-PC:
1) keep the OS lean
2) fit the OS to the hardware instead the hardware to a given OS
3) ReactOS does not only look and feel like Windows - it's compatible!
The last point (3) is the most important: I would use an EE-PC as my 2nd system: With ReactOS I can take my most favorite software to my EEE-PC.
*) By the way: Until now i didn't realise any company using Vista or even thinking about changing (in the future) on it. They are busy to switch from NT4 to XP!

You can install it from an external CD drive, or via network connect. I am pretty sure installing from a USB Jump Drive is an option as well. I have had some success getting to the ReactOC boot options via USB already!
I have been trying to manipulate ReactOS to boot from a 2GB USB Jump Drive on my pc and I have also been testing it to boot from a Philips 57" Rear Projection Television which also has a USB port, network connection and keyboard with internal mouse.
So I say it is something that can be over come.
Once my result for my television experiments are in, I post them back on this forum.. I know I am not the only one here with a HDTV! So I would highly recommend that everyone who has the ability to test a television, to start testing immediately.
If I can get DamnSmallLinux to boot via my television, then sure I can get ReactOS to as well. Just trial and error at this point..
See my other post on my complete USB T.V. idea...
