New workstation for my ReactOS pc

Post by Kevin Castro »

Last year, I decided to build a dedicated workstation for KATRELL (my ReactOS pc). I didn’t want to do any cutting—just drilling and screwing. In Australia’s major chain of hardware stores, I found a range of floating shelves that was perfect.

(The photography routine remains the same: take the photos, plug the Pentax into KATRELL, and copy the images in. Then, in Irfanview, I resize, crop, stitch, and save. Unfortunately, I’m now unable to submit posts from KATRELL—sometimes typing online is disabled.)

The portable radio/CD player on the audio shelf has an audio-input jack and functions as a sound system. It worked with a recent 7-64 install but remains silent with ReactOS. Sound card on the way, fingers crossed.

(I had to create this doc in KATRELL to show the list of parts. The toolbar is wacky, but a mouse-over reveals the actual name/function of each button.)

(I created this SketchUp in Google SketchUp 7 in Win-7. Fortunately, this program installs and runs in ReactOS without fuss. The appearance occasionally goes a bit wonky, but it’s good enough to use.)

When the castors are added, the top of the keyboard shelf is 676mm from the floor, and the top of the monitor shelf is 766mm from the floor.

The keyboard shelf overhangs 10mm at the front of its upright. To set the height of the monitor shelf, I simply sat two breakfast bowls on the keyboard shelf and then sat the monitor shelf on the bowls. Then I drilled and screwed it.

From this angle, we see the easy egress afforded by the left side.
(This screen-cap shows that the SketchUp window went slightly bizarre on the right side and the bottom edge—it’s out of alignment with the taskbar.

That's a nice one!

I'm not talented on crafting like that.

I find it funny that your computer has a name! Now I have to think of a name for my own PC... :ugeek:

Greetings
Peter

Thanks, Peter. Yeah, I like to give them names.
I designed this workstation as a space-saver. All my other stations are an “L” design, with the mouse at monitor shelf height and my mouse arm supported all the way to the elbow. Using this station for more than an hour gives me severe elbow pain (usually the following day).

Is that a USB drive - or is your PC just happy to be photographed? :)

Setup looks very nice.

I need more room to dedicate an older computer to ReactOS, the PC is just sitting on the floor doing nothing.
