Re: FAT Licensing

I wouldn't worry about those (rightfully invalid) patents. By the time ReactOS hits 1.0 they will be long expired :)

Re: Trunk Revision 52678

Well, that is interesting. I created a drive image with one primary partition and eight tiny FAT partitions inside an extended partition. Nothing strange, just used DOS FDISK. Got similar results. The first (primary), fifth, and ninth partitions are accessible from within ReactOS. The others show up...

FAT file system bugs

I have been researching some issues I have discovered with the way ReactOS sets up and uses the FAT file system. I will post bugs on these, but I thought I would ask for feedback here first: ----------------- Problem: ReactOS sometimes sets FAT file attribute bit 7 (0x80) on files. Many, but not all...

Re: Freeze the code

Unfortunately they got to get back to writing new code sometime. :D And there is a certain trade off as new code will always introduce new bugs anyway. From an end users perspective "fixing bugs" might seem like a simple thing to do, but believe me, some of those "bugs" are enorm...

Re: Trying to get Network running. How To?

Fortunately network interface cards are one of the easier things to get working under ReactOS. All you need is a Windows 2000/XP "INF" based installer for your card. This consists of an INF file, an NDIS 5.0/5.1 SYS file, and sometimes a miscellaneous support file or two. Look for an "...

Re: How will Windows 8 affect the project?

Personally, I am already sick of Windows 8. Every where I turn is "Windows 8" "Windows 8" "Windows 8" and more undeserved fanfare about Windows 8. And people screaming "oooh scrolling windows!" like little girls. Never mind the tiling was all in WINDOWS 1! Unf...

Re: ReactOS on other platforms - why?

ReactOS would actually make a very usable OS for an ARM based tablet, PDA, or embedded type device. On those types of devices you usually don't have to worry about being able to run any random third party application like desktop OSes do. Also, Microsoft is supposedly porting Windows to ARM, which m...

Re: Any way to install ROS on a HD without a CD/DVD?

Personally I wouldn't even mess with grub, if ReactOS is the only partition just drop Freeldr and the ini in the root directory and write the boot sector code to the disk. I use an old DOS based tool called READBOOT to read/write the boot sectors, but that only works on FAT16. I know I have seen som...

Re: Making ReactOS more public

I've seen a similar karma system come and go at another board. It seemed like a really neat idea at first, but it proved worse than useless in the end and was removed. I agree it would be nice to find some way to bring more visitors to this forum and improve the quality of the posts. However, I don'...

one for Seamonkey 1.1.17 and other entry for SeaMonkey 2.1. That way we can still control regressions thanks to 1.1.17 SeaMonkey 1.1.17 is actually a good example of why to stick to one specific version, in 1.1.18 and 1.1.19 they back ported a newer version of the NSS libary that references some Wi...

Re: Making ReactOS more public

But have Microsoft ever released an unfinished build of their OS to public? Yes, Windows ME. But really, yes, you won't find them on store shelves, but they are available to certain developer channels and MS partners, with occasional public developer releases, and public betas as they approac...

Re: Making ReactOS more public

Advertising an unfinished product is quite stupid. Lol. Tell that to Bill Gates. Every version of Windows back to before version 1 received various kinds of "advertisements" before they were released. It is a matter of what kind of advertisement - such as providing incentives for magazine...

NT from 1991 reminds me of ReactOS

Someone recently pointed me to a very, very, old prerelease of Windows NT distributed at the 1991 Comdex. This was well before first release of NT in 1993, many bits didn't work or were not fully implemented, and I could not help but compare it to ReactOS. There are screen shots of it here: http://w...

Re: [Collaborative Testing]GoldenAPPs r52433

I attempted to test Acrobat Reader 7.10, but it just hung during installation. Tried out VLC and basic video and DVD playing seems to work well. I couldn't get the VirtualBox AC97 drivers to work under this ReactOS revision, so no sound. Is there any list of things to test? Some of those programs ha...
