reactos explorer on windows? tutorial? wiki?
Classicshell bring back perfectly the startbutton and startmenu to win8. I have installed it too in the release preview. Reactos shell: Is it possible to test the reactos explorer, or the reactos "explorer-new" in it's current state as a shell replacement for windows? Which windows version...

Re: What VM drive mounting/manipulation tools do you use?
@DeadDude in virtualbox i have always been able to mount ISO's for reactos without any problems In vmware player <= version 4.0.3 i have had problems to mount ISO's for win8 so possibly your vmware problems are not strictly reactos related? In the latest version vmware player 4.0.4 i have no problem...

Re: can I do a dual boot ?
Yes. Reactos can be booted from grub. See here http://www.reactos.org/wiki/Boot_FreeLoader_from_GRUB 1. i have grub in MBR and Linux in a partition other than the first. 2. reactos installed on /dev/sda1 - Possibly reactos can also boot on a not-first partition now but it had to be the first when i ...

Re: ReactOS executables detected by Avira
In the past i had a lot of concern with false positives by avira freeav for linux, while compiling reactos from source. Most exe's related to network were detected as containing a trojan. Possibly due to behaviour analysis by freeav. I did not upload anything to avira because i thought they would cr...

commandline "ftp" + 7zip for tar packaging / alternatively I
I use reactos in virtualbox. I have installed the virtualbox-tools. But the vbox shared directories unfortunately don't work. I have installed 7zip in reactos, and use it to tar or untar files and directories. Tar's advantage is - transparency of file attributes like the date+hour - better linux com...

Re: LiveCD to HDD?
However, on mine, I have to use a PS2 mouse because if I enable legacy mode, the mouse becomes uncontrollable and erratic. Maybe the BIOS does not handle the legacy mode correctly? Could it be that the legacy mode works, but simultaneously the USB protocol of the mouse/keyboard is transparently for...

Re: Random ideas for downloadable apps for 0.3.14
no need for winzip.
7-zip, which is already in the Reactos application download catalog, works perfect and has all features.
7-zip is the most, or one of the most complete, free compression tool, and can also open "rar" compressed archives, i think.

Re: cmake build 53940 works with an rbuild VBR+grub
Good news: cmake versions of bootcd's are installable and bootable, if i leave away the installation of both boot records MBR and VBR So, if an "rbuild" version is previously installed, i can over-install afternath a cmake version provided i do NOT reformat the partition and NOT install a ...

Re: install on linux environment
Depending on hardware compatibility, this possibly works: 1. have "/dev/sda1" as FAT32 for Reactos, and linux on other partitions. 2. install reactos from CD, but install the freeldr boot record in the /dev/sda1 partition. (this is the VBR volume boot record option rather at end of install...

Touch screens: sensor endurance?
Touch screens: I think it depends on technology. Regarding the technologies working with finger or stick mechanical pressing onto the screen, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resistive_touchscreen Which touchcreen technology is used most often? i'm quite reluctant about material endurance. Would screen ...

Re: cmake questions (for practical use)
Thanks, I have compiled 53608 the cmake way, compilation worked without problem (just not for rostests) Also the creation of the bootcd. 1. i wonder why the cmake version of boot cd ISO ist nearly 50% bigger than the rbuild ISO ? rbuild ISO > 50 MB cmake ISO > 70 MB Is there some optimization in the...

cmake questions (for practical use)
Hi, As Reactos project ist implementing the cmake build method as an alternative to rbuild, i would like to start using this. Does cmake work in the same build environment "RosBE" on linux (and windows) without changes? Or must i install additional packages / tools? Does cmake use the &quo...

Question on contemporary HDD's
So if Windows/Reactos is on the outermost partition and the swap file is an inner one, then that could reduce performance. 1. Do modern standard harddisks always have 1 single plate (with 2 faces), or have they frequently multiple plates? Does the firmware of the HDD allocates blocks on the faces o...
