Re: List of Unusual OSes
And from what I have read, I suspect SkyOS has not been quite "invented by its inventor". There are enough rumours that he has violated the GPL; I find it not less likely that he has not violated anything but just stolen from BSD (what others do, too - I heard Apple uses NetBSD in automat...

new BBcode tags for developers?
Would it be possible for someone to add some BBcodes that would make linking to bugzilla etc easier?
EG:
would essentially create a link like this:
Bug 993.
Also, this could be expanded to include links to trunk builds and commit messages, in a similar fashion.
EG:
Code: Select all
[bugzilla]993[/bugzilla]
Bug 993.
Also, this could be expanded to include links to trunk builds and commit messages, in a similar fashion.

Re: Arwinss : Alternative names + logo request
Brandy/Cognac As an alcoholic beverage, it's basically distilled Wine. As ARWINSS is essentially "purified" (AKA more NTish) WINE, I believe that this is a very good term to use. Logo-wise, why not use an artistically styled "snifter" glass surrounded by "electrons" ala...

Re: ReactOS on Wine
ReactOS *IS* Wine (standalone) ! Uuuuh, NO??! OK, then: ReactOS *is* almost standalone Wine Better ? Again, no. ARWINSS is standalone WINE, ReactOS is independant of WINE in the way it handles applications. WINE handles win32 apps in a non-Windows way, but ReactOS tries to follow the Windows approa...

Re: ReactOS is...
Nute, i'm sorry, but purely patching Windows is against the Windows EULA, and as the apple Vs Psystar lawsuit can prove, EULA's are legal contracts. If you replace components of Windows is FOSS ones, the FOSS project that produced the code could potentially have their asses sued off. It's not all pr...

Re: Installing React - Noob Question Sorry!
By "it's not ready for general use" we mean "It could seriously wreak havoc with anything else on that system". Also, there's a high chance ReactOS won't work on that hardware anyway. Try something older, like a PII/PIII, then if ReactOS somehow fries your system, you won't be lo...

Re: Personal concerns
I don't want to flame you or anything, so don't take this as a flame or anything. GCC just doesn't support the features ReactOS wants, and ReactOS doesn't have the manpower to write a Visual Studio clone. The developers will use MSVC regardless of what you say, purely because GCC just does not fill ...

Re: Finally figured I'd share my two cents.
It sure wouldn't. Besides, if the site were actually displaying progress in some useful, layman-accessible manner, the developers and moderators wouldn't have any more endless "Why does this version exist? When will it be done? When will this work?" threads to bristle at. Plus, nute would...

Re: is ti possible to recompile kernel like linux ?
Do you mean recompile for different architectures like PowerPC and ARM? If so, yes you can, but it doesn't necesarily mean it will work. x64 just about boots, but it doesn't load up to anything useable. Same for ARM (i think). x86 is the only architecture guaranteed to boot and run, the rest are nig...
Re: Bootini
http://www.multibooters.co.uk/mbr.html Master Boot Rec in WinNT 2003 and Vista / Win 7. Great article on the boot sequence. Note that WinXP uses bootini and Vista/Win7 does not. It uses the HDD drive number located in the MBR. This was also noted as the Drive Tolerance number. Please read the entir...

Re: Reactos on xbox 1 ?
Yes I've heard of modding xbox 1's, but there are problems. I think Microsoft caught on and not wanting to see people running Linux on Xbox, there were design changes. A thing to think about is that xbox consoles are probably modified old technology. I am more interested in being able to run ReactO...
