It seems that it'll be like MacOSX is to FreeBSD.

The lower levels of MacOSX (such as the kernel, Darwin) are based on open source FreeBSD code, with the upper levels (such as the GUI) being closed-source proprietary programs from Apple.

Re: The Impact of React OS

If hardware vendors are interested in adopting ReactOS to cut costs, I imagine they'll address the need for a flashy GUI by making their own. I can imagine someone buying a Dell and seeing the Dell name splashed on the Start menu, Windows, and everywhere else. True. My dad bought a HP tower a while...

Re: ReactOS 0.3.10 on Industrial CPU board

A possibly useful link: http://www.reactos.org/wiki/index.php/Supported_Hardware/Video_cards As a side note, I put it to the mods that we could really do with a sticky thread containing links to the various "Supported Hardware" wiki pages so as to make things easier for new users who are w...

Re: reactOS ruulz, some feedback

USB is completely unimplemented. Well, USB keyboard and mouse are supported, although it's early days yet. As for the bootloader, GRUB is useless to us, as we have a very complex bootloading process, similar to Windows (hence why you can't boot Windows just by using GRUB, it has to call NTLDR to ac...

Re: FAT48

Why? Nobody else has such a filesystem... They will have it as soon as it's ready for use. I mean it may be used on MS Win. Linux version would be not hard to make as well. ... I see FAT48 as a simple port of FAT32 to 48bit HDD addressing without any other changes/improvements. That is not the best...

Re: new website layout contest

Is there really no skilled graphic designer in our community ? We need a complete design guys. Good looking one. Amateur mashups are pretty useless you know. Well, real, good artists, they kinda like to be paid, you know :) That's like sitting in the house and shouting out the window: "Are the...

Re: Install shutdown PC at teh copying file process

You might just want to try using ReactOS inside a virtual machine using QEMU, VirtualBox or VMWare. It's much simpler and avoids the pitfalls of incompatible hardware. Note that Microsoft Virtual PC is supposedly too buggy to run ReactOS properly. QEMU, VirtualBox and VMWare are all available for do...

1) Print out ReactOS leaflets and posters.
2) Pin them up on Comp. Sci. noticeboards at your local University.
3) ???
4) Profit!

Re: Getting Power Without Cables

I read something about this a year or two ago, whereby devices could be charged by resting them on a "charging mat" like a mouse-mat. It was suggested that the technology could be useful for wireless mice and mobile phones.
