Fast Stone Image Viewer already does what you want. Why not just add that software to your existing Windows PC?
The problem with MS is that they steal the ideas of everyone else. They've not a single invention in Vista that hasn't already been done.

I think you are confusing the patents issues with the copyright issues. Microsoft designed a structure that is not copyrightable, but some of it is patentable. Because system level access is not necessarily defined by your firewall.
