It's not dead!
All filesystem related things are waiting for the cc-branch merge.
As ReactOS currently has no real cache manager implemention and is not compatible with NT 4 and/or 5 filesystem driver, such things have to wait.
FreeLoader already support Ext2, NTFS, etc. and this for several years.
