Re: When will there be an "Official Release" of ReactOS?
Mixing and matching components of Microsoft Windows isn't against the rules as long as you're talking about a product that has been officially licensed to you and you're not suggesting or sharing any methods of receiving any software under illegal circumstances. Even the ReactOS developers do that i...

Re: Windows is poor when performing disc i/o - ReactOS too?
I've also always felt that the overall performance suffers a lot during heavy IO on Windows. Why that is, I don't know. Haven't noticed the same on Linux. I don't know the technical details, but I'm pretty sure Windows organizes I/O so it works better with the rest of the system. It's just observat...

Re: Benefits of GitHub?
Just be careful of github trolls, there's been a group of extremists going around spamming/harassing various projects to adopted their own terms that basically say you're not allowed to say anything "offensive" anywhere online or else you get purged from the project. I know the ReactOS tea...

Re: Benefits of GitHub?
I for one could never navigate that JIRA thing for the life of me, GitHub's UI is really simple and coherent, so that's one thing I'm particularly happy about.

Re: Aero glass !
Not even semi-transparent window border. Why ? To be fair, we don't even have some XP-era programs rendering correctly. I'd imagine complicating the rendering any further at this stage would only complicate that. But, I mean, if you ever feel like writing your own DWM implementation or someth...

Re: Windows 10 turns into a modular Platform
I'm a bit confused, wasn't NT already pretty modular, especially after the MinWin restructuring? The WinAPI is just a subsystem over the Native API, GDI and all GUI/windowing systems above it are already modular and were ripped out of Nano Server, and even then Explorer was specifically designed to...

Re: Is React OS supposed to be only 9x?
It's actually supposed to resemble Server 2003's theme (Classic theme) but yes there is theme support. It's still in the works but it's mostly done. Since nobody on the team is really a fan of Luna or any themes thereafter, they haven't been implemented into stock ReactOS. Of course if you look in t...

Re: Can't Install Google Chrome
There's several reasons it won't work any time soon. Among other things simply not working in ReactOS, Chrome hasn't supported Windows XP for years now.

Re: [newbie] How run ReactOS?
Pretty sure shared directories in VMs need a host driver installed in the VM, look for an option in vmware to insert the driver disc and then run it in ROS.rock59 wrote:anybody knows how to share directory with windows host in vmware?
I share dir in the vmware configuration but in ros vm I do not see it!

Re: I'm new
The end goal is to work on any computer that can run Windows with full driver compatibility, but it's not stable enough yet. Don't hold your breath, since the project doesn't have many developers talented/knowledgeable enough to make development go any faster, nor does it have much funding. But it's...

Re: BTrFS vs NTFS boot from
And we should not forget that feature complete NTFS driver in ReactOS still does not exist . And will not exist in next 2 years approx. While WinBTRFS is almost ready. And? ReactOS itself is still far from production ready. What does it matter if the NTFS driver takes the same amount of time ReactO...

Re: BBC Iplayer compatible?
General rule for software compatibility is "try it yourself!" ReactOS is free and there are numerous x86 emulators that are also free, like VirtualBox, so it only costs a moment of your time to try (especially since the ReactOS installation process takes less than a minute). Although, I'm ...

Re: Business idea - workstation with preinstalled ReactOS
I'm sure the team has this idea in mind for the future. But right now ReactOS is just plain incomplete, it won't work correctly on any hardware for long. There's still a few core services in the kernel that need to be perfected or rewritten until then. As it's been stated in a lot of the forum signa...
