Re: [REPORT] The Dark Reality of Open Source
Open source is generating new vulnerabilities at a historically rapid pace. I'm not sure that this is something you can attribute to open source code necessarily. It feels like correlation but not necessarily causation. Also, I'm not sure it's significant, but it's interesting that about 47% of the...

Re: Animated Gif on boot screen
It's not exactly as easy as replacing a GIF somewhere. Check out this commit: https://github.com/reactos/reactos/commit/238ea69ca0cc1c01332ea9f6211bb2ce3ffb371a Then read this file: https://github.com/reactos/reactos/blob/master/ntoskrnl/inbv/inbv.c And pay close attention to variables with words li...
Re: Viruses?
viruses can easily be hidden behind complex code Think about this for a second though; what would a virus hidden in an OS be infecting? The OS itself? To what end? The last release (not debug!) build of a release level build was at the end of April I can't say why there hasn't been a release build ...

Re: Not installing on ASUS EEEPC 1000 HG
You should be able to burn it to a CD and install that way. What ISO are you using? What error are you seeing?

Re: Kernel progress?
The release announcements alone take weeks of work to write and polish, nevermind also writing regular blog post updates about what's going on at an acceptable level of quality. If there were a dedicated ReactOS PR person who knew enough about the technical stuff going on, maybe that would be viable...

Re: ReactOS in the wild
It seems they are using ReactOS' command line interpreter (cmd.exe), which is itself based on the one from FreeDOS (hence "Tim Norman" appearing in the copyright license). Do you say this based only on the Tim Norman reference, or is there something else you found? All I can see from FLIR...

Re: Romanian localization
There is at least some work towards having Romanian supported: https://github.com/reactos/reactos/search?q=romanian&type=Commits Feel free to submit any other changes you think are necessary via a GitHub Pull Request. As for the forum category - I think it would require more than one user to req...

Re: VirtualBox 4.0.8 on ReactOS 0.4.13
I can confirm that there's an issue with VirtualBox. I've tested versions 4.0.8 and 5.2.12 as well as a few in between. When creating a new VM, the dropdown area to select the OS template is blank. There doesn't appear to be an issue in Jira related to this and I swear I've been able to run VBox ins...

Re: How to install IPX to ReactOS
My system version is 0.4.13 and i see : (in this site : https://reactos.org/wiki/ReactOS_Update ) New feature Support for IPX/SPX The heading for that section reads, "ReactOS Update (ReactUpdate) concept #2". This is a proposal/concept for how an update tool could work. This is not a stat...

Re: ReactOs need find place in world [IDEA]
games like gorky 17 This game looks like it should work in theory. I don't see any tickets in the issue tracker for it? ReactOS RDP server Your proposal is basically to finish the 'server' version of the Windows OS. Once Samba/network storage and the RDP server are working, your suggestions here ar...

Re: Ease of update
First - ReactOS is targeting Windows XP/Windows Server 2003, not Windows 2000.
But the short answer to your questions is yes; once the base is stable, extending it to be compatible with other versions of Windows will be much quicker. In fact, some of those newer API calls are already implemented.

Re: Two decades later...what's the point?
Microsoft doesn't give two flying fucks if you download Windows 98 and set it up in a VM. Ever try to install Windows XP or Server 2003 in a VM? Without a license or some sort of crack, you only get a few days of functionality until it stops working correctly. That would be fine enough for me, sinc...
