Re: Raising number of users in forum - add banner rotator

Stuffing your site full of advertising is a sure way to alienate your more intelligent visitors.

Besides, who still browses with web without Adblock? With all the malicious ads out there, it is down right dangerous.

Re: Is legal install this in ReactOS?

Installing Microsoft software under ReactOS/Wine is perfectly 100% legal. Even if Gates and Balmer don't like it. You may even install "Windows components" as long as you have a valid Microsoft Windows license - and most ReactOS/Wine users do anyway. Now, if you happen to be a big manufacturer tryin...

Re: Potential problem with 0.3.15 on real hw

Well, I went back and tried to narrow down that issue I was having with the 0.3.15 RC2, but I can't seem to replicate the issue now. Perhaps it was just a bad CD-RW disk. So you can scratch that. Sorry I haven't had more time to test.

Re: Testing CALL: hardware

What is the correct way to install a driver since ReactOS does not normally ask for a video driver at first boot?

Re: Potential problem with 0.3.15 on real hw

Ok, I tried bootcd-58635-dbgwin.iso, what 0.3.15 was branched from, and that installs perfectly. The latest trunk also installs perfectly, but BSODs after starting the GUI apparently due to recent check ins that have nothing to do with uniata or 0.3.15.

Both the 0.3.15rc2.iso and 0.3.15rc2-alt.iso builds linked to at the top of the thread.

Re: Potential problem with 0.3.15 on real hw

I tried to install ReactOS on my KT7A test machine (VIA KT133/VT82C686B chipset) and both builds randomly either hung at a black screen before setup started, or hung while copying files during setup. CD is Secondary Master, and the HD is on VIA 6421 SATA adapter. I stuffed an older Uniata (from buil...

Re: windows blue (8.1)

what if consumers start demanding the source code to windows xp would they do it just a question? A bigger issue here is that consumers hold out quite a bit of unjustified faith that Microsoft will be generous in one way or another. Will Microsoft bring back the Start menu? Will Microsoft unbundle ...

Re: windows blue (8.1)

BlackRabbit, awesome breakdown of what they are doing. Hadn't thought about the DVD removal being a push for their on-line stuff, but that makes perfect sense. All together, these should be scaring the crap out their business customers right now. And Windows Blue cements the fact that they are not d...

Re: windows blue (8.1)

Of course all the kids are drooling over it as if they are "leet" for having it. Never mind it and Windows 8 (at least the shell) is a useless, backwards piece of trash that going to run Microsoft in to the ground.

Obviously they should be downloading ReactOS instead. :D

Re: 5.25 floppies and formatting them?!

Heck, I've been reading in some 5.25" disks from ~1983/84 recently! It is really eye opening to see how far we have come - and in many ways how far we have regressed. (All the early 80s DOS software had you memorize goofy keyboard commands and running full screen. The Mac put an axe in all that, but...

Re: Should ReactOS rather focus on NT 3.1 compatibility firs

But... if you look at it from an application compatibility and feature completeness perspective, rather than an architectural one, then the question makes some sense. ReactOS is still missing important features that NT 3.1 had, such as integrated file sharing and printing, and it falls face down whe...

Well, at least it's not HTML5 with all its XML and object oriented JIT scripting. Its so over complicated its going to fall in on itself and accidentally the entire thing. I'll take a good old VT100 terminal connection any day. But seriously, is the compatiblity database coming back, or is it ...

Re: Sharing files between windows 7 and ReactOs on Virtualbo

Depending on what you are doing, one way that works well is to mount the disk image file as a drive under Windows. I would suggest creating a separate disk image that ReactOS would recognize as "D". (remember it must be formatted FAT or FAT32) That way when you reformat and re-install ReactOS it won...
