HURD: the only OS known to mankind which is in perpetual state of development ;) what you mean they have stopped developing windows, linux, osX and BSD? but on a serious note, i have only come accross one OS/2 machine (in 11 years) and that was years ago, and they where looking to move that t...

Re: Networks; the hopes and dreams of a network admin

I would dearly like to see ROS Desktop and Server modelled after Win2000's Domain Controller model (using LDAP, or NDS, or whatever). Again maximum compatiblity to allow for Windows clients would be nice, but ultimately I would like to get rid of making sacrifices to the Golden Flag of MS. I totall...

For there you can use any distributive of Linux. PS. sorry my bad english. all of my training materials are windows based, and other computers they will come across will be windows machines, linux is not ideal for non computer users, for a start not everyone knows how to fix linux, and some users w...

that is exactlly what I want it for, older computers. I teach basic IT skills and I want to give away a recycled computer with the training.

Microsoft will not let you do that.

i voted for 2006. all i need from reactos is a browser and office suite (anything extra is a bonus). 100% windows compatibility is not totally needed for what i want to do with it. mind you, once networking is stable, there will be loads more people reporting bugs and trying other software. i think ...

i think I am correct in thinking that mircosoft own some of the code in OS2, therefore it is not IBMs to give away.

I am willing to be proved wrong.

i agree, "look at" != "take code from" but I was under the impression that openDOS was NOT open source.

http://www.drdos.com/products/buyout.htm

but the code has been bought a sold so many times i have lost track of who owns it now.

When it comes to sharing knowledge and/or code, I think FreeDOS will be a valuable asset. On a long term, it could be interesting to look at OpenDOS as well, for it is based on DR-DOS, which has some interesting APIs which MS-DOS does not have, which could be interesting to implement for a truly wi...

i think you are just trolling mate. there are many reasons for making a windows compatable OS. I want to give away computers (for free) but I can't do that with a microsoft operating system, I could with reactOS. I think reactOS is another option for companys not wanting to play the microsoft bigger...

I work for a college (in scotland) and have been praising reactos to many people tutors/ students/ IT support (anyone who will listen) an open letter / press release aimed at the academic community sounds like a good idea to me (after 0.3 maybe ?), even if a few colleges install it on a few machines...
