Re: Compatibility database?

It's nice to hear the compatibility database isn't deprecated. I can't code for crap, so it's one of the few ways I can contribute. Thanks for the info!

Re:

Compatibility with Windows programs is important, and screenshots should show how far ReactOS makes an advance. On the other hand, I understand that advertising proprietary apps with connection with free OS doesn't look very good. The whole point of ReactOS is binary compatibility with Windows. Mos...

Re: FutureAlpha OS

Is this even open source? If it isn't, how could ReactOS even benefit from this? If this Linux-based, then they're probably better off working with Wine. No insult to linooxlee, but it sounds like it's a one way deal - Sinomanic using ReactOS code for their commercial use.

Compatibility database?

Is the compatibility database being maintained? I see new compatibility reports being filed but I had trouble finding it without searching the website. The reason I'm asking is that I have ReactOS installed on my testbed computer and I don't want to spend time submitting compatibility reports if it'...

Re: A Modern Operating System

When this project does become mature, I imagine that people will fork it to suit their needs, since that seems to be a force of nature for open-source projects. If I'm building a high-end gaming rig for my nephew, than what I'm going to need for an interface is going to be different than if I'm rebu...

Re: FreeDOS and ReactOS Project Junction

Windows has an extremely complex compatibility layer in place to handle DOS applications. The thing you keep calling COMMAND.COM is just the cmd in later versions, and our cmd was from FreeDOS to begin with. It by itself does nothing to ensure that DOS applications run. Short and simple answers. I ...

Re: MB Portability, Customizations, The Core

I consider to be highly important to make the OS core not depent on all that "fancy stuff" that came aftre NT4 (I'm not talking about USB support and other new hardware, though). Unfortunately, along with improving user interface MS was adding non-removable "features" to each subsequent version of ...

Re: help32.exe - It isn't present

I thought the target was Windows 2000, with the intention of catching up to newer versions of Windows when we got that far. Even if we don't find the help format personally useful, we should include winhelp32 for the sake of legacy support. I'm sure we could all find things about Windows we never us...

Re: Yazou's stuff

The first sentence reads "Since the past decade, developers from around the world are working hard to make ReactOS a reality." It should read " Since the past decade, developers from around the world have been working hard to make ReactOS a reality," since you're referring to developers in the past ...

Re: windows 7 beta

I installed the Windows 7 beta on the second hard drive on my computer. I personally find the interface attractive, more so than Vista. Some of the alterations to the menus were nice as well. I installed Spore Creature Creator, maxed out the graphics settings (I have a nice video card) and Spore ran...

Re: Clinging to Windows Classic

I'm kind of scared to jump into the conversation, considering how vicious it was starting to get . I don't mind Windows Classic. I'm using it right now. However, it is my opinion we should have something more modern, since most users, especially younger ones, aren't going to be familiar with th...

Re: Is any audio needed?

I used Ubuntu Linux for a while and I enjoyed that the soft, natural sounds it used for notifications. In my opinion, sounds should start softly and end softly. I startle easily, and Windows XP scares the hell out of me when it barks that loud "DONG!!!" when a message box appears. When something hap...

ReactOS Mod Site

There are always people on the forums suggesting that the ReactOS team create different editions of ReactOS, or suggesting new wallpapers or themes. I'm not a proponent of anything other than the barebones, basic ReactOS we are using now being distributed as the official because it's not the ReactOS...

Re: ReactOS that you want

First you make ReactOS stable. Once it is stable, you then cut the fat off to make it slim. A slim ReactOS is also a fast ReactOS, and we want people to be able to compare Windows and ReactOS and come out liking ReactOS more. A fast ReactOS would also be a good gaming ReactOS, as part of having a fa...
