Re: MB Portability, Customizations, The Core

Portability (in terms of ability of the same installation to survive moving to a different motherboard or VM) and Alexei, you can swap out motherboards on a Windows installation. If you're referring to the installation process, the conflict occurs when you use a Windows disc from a computer manufac...

Re: Different distros of ReactOS?

Here is where the ReactOS Foundation has to have somekind of control. Im not saying stopping distros to be done, but just writing somekind of rules about the Distros to be considered official: The foundation has absolutely no control over this. The GPL allows anyone to fork the project and rename it...

Re: Different distros of ReactOS?

ReactOS is GPL code, so it's pretty much an assumed fact that people will create distros of it. Personally, I'm not against distros as long as they don't break compatibility. If it's something like changing the appearance or having more programs installed at default, I don't care. (I'll probably the...

Re: Please post your 0.3.9 screenshots here

I posted a screenshot of SkiFree running on 0.3.9 in the Compatibility Database. Apparently it's been working for a while, but I posted up my screenshot since I had tested it already anyways.

Re: Please post your 0.3.9 screenshots here

This seems to be a common problem. Gens GS, BoycottAdvance, and also Snes9x if I remember correctly, have this keyboard problem. I don't know the cause of it though. It could be DirectInput like you said. Yeah, DirectInput is the cause, it isn't working right... Out of curiosity, are any of the dev...

Re: Big Screenshot List - Put Screenshot here :D

I just tried installing Guest Additions in ReactOS 0.3.9 and it failed to install. I'm running VirtualBox 2.1.4. Any suggestions?

Here are some screenshots I took of Doukutsu Monogotari, (or Cave Story), a popular freeware game from Studio Pixel. http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/5623/cavestory1.th.png http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/9836/cavestory2.th.png http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/2738/cavestory3.th.png The first t...

Re: Please post your 0.3.9 screenshots here

Oh, by the way, if anyone is new to testing software on ReactOS, there's a compatibility database where you can report how well the software did or did not work. It's a little antiquated but it's still being maintained, apparently.

Re: great job gentlemen

I got the open-source bug back in high school (about six years ago, I guess) and dabbled with Ubuntu Linux a bit. I liked the stability and the environment but I hated the lack of software and the need to use the command line for everything. If I remember correctly, I found out about ReactOS when it...

Re: ReactOS Shutdown and Screen Burn-In

Most monitors and televisions do have automatic shut downs (my plasma television turns off after something like an hour, for instance) but I don't think we should assume that it is a given fact that everyone has one that does this. I figured that most people who test ReactOS for the first time on re...

ReactOS Shutdown and Screen Burn-In

When ReactOS is shut down, it sends you to a blue screen with a goofy message, and tells you "You can switch off your computer now." As far as I can tell, this screen stays on until you actively turn off the machine. Problem is, people who aren't smart enough to figure this out, or are too used to o...

Re: Let's adopt TUZ !

Of course you could always fork ReactOS and add Reacty. ReactyOS!

(No, I'm not serious.)

At this point, I think I agree with the devs that we don't need a mascot.

Start Menu and Skinning Compatibility

People often suggest we use something other than the Windows Classic look. While I myself have never been completely fond of it, I fully understand the developers' reasons for not implementing another style. I used to always suggest that users wait for ReactOS to support skinning software and/or the...

There exists a project, which allows to run some Win32 programs under DOS, but I forgot how it is called… Hto is referring to the HX DOS extender. It seems to still be in development, and the developer's posted the source code, but I'm not sure if it's actually open-source. Themouse, if you're seri...
