Re: Would Microsoft replace NT Kernel with Linux kernel?

these linux fans... thanks god, this annoying guy got removed quickly from the recommended list by clicking "not interesting". the explanation sucks. sucks as everything related to GNU/religion. he repeats it would be cool, and even that it will happen, he talks as it is inevitable (gosh, *facepalm...

I don't understand all this thread, Wayland is for Linux and ReactOS has no link with it. ReactOS use its own GUI based on ReactOS Explorer.
I mean, is it possible to build ReactOS with just a command-line and run an X server and desktop environment on top of it?

Re: Would Microsoft replace NT Kernel with Linux kernel?

that would be the stupidest move in the industry of all the times. hard to say what everybody in MS should smoke and in what amount to make that decision. it would be something like replacing this (lamborghini diablo): https://images.cars.com/supersized/in/v1/4614117/ZA9DU01B31LA12698/5debbe6ded206...

Re: Would Microsoft replace NT Kernel with Linux kernel?

I don't thinks so. Otherwise, they have to release a GPL version of Windows without other proprietary stuff from their main version. And I don't think Microsoft is willing to completely open-source Windows 10 anytime soon.

Re: Possibilities For NTVDM and other Sub-Systems

I have the necessary and sufficient coding skills, but lack the necessary time (it's very difficuly to be a combined research&administrative assistant in one university and doctoral student in another, and more difficult to find a suitable contiguous timespan to make significant (non-toy) contribut...

Re: Possibilities For NTVDM and other Sub-Systems

It is a future plan. It's all in your head. :| You contributed zero lines of code to the project. It seems you are not aware you're just making up words. erkinalp, what your saying is not a bad idea in my opinion and these are good proposals if the developers would like to take a look at them. But ...

Re: Possibilities For NTVDM and other Sub-Systems

No need to be included in ReactOS Minimal. Are you aware you're making up words? ENIW is just a concept for a proposal of a Linux subsystem for ReactOS. About the ReactOS "Minimal" thing, is it possible when ReactOS is ready for release it's going to come in different editions/flavors? Like a stand...

Re: Possibilities For NTVDM and other Sub-Systems

ENIW, unlike Wine or WSL 1, would delegate to Linux using a kernel-mode subsystem, and unlike WSL 2, will not use virtualisation, would instead use thunking to user-mode instance of Linux (this is no problem for us, because both are licensed under GPL 2). ELF interpretation is just a part of it. Th...

Re: POS

Yeah, I remember from over a decade ago that a lot of store register systems used Windows 2000 or some custom version of NT and ran the software to work with the register hardware and handle credit/debit card transactions. Yeah, I think it was one of those Windows CE or Embedded POSReady editions.

Re: Possibilities For NTVDM and other Sub-Systems

But if Linux binary run on ReactOS then what would be the difference between Linux and Windows . ( ReactOS = Windows , at least to me ) Besides things that runs on Linux can run on Windows . Also if you are going to use ReactOS in future then why won't you want to use ReactOS native software ? Also...

Re: TheRegister: "ReactOS ‘a ripoff of the Windows Research Kernel’ claims Microsoft kernel engineer"

This incident will make ReactOS famous (I hope)! Or at least make it known by more people... And new developers and useful people will join to this project. Yeah, but in a negative way. It would most likely give the project a bad public reputation though, because if people suspected that ReactOS is...

Re: Wayland gives ReactOS new life?

yes but the last time I looked into Wayland I do not think it is ready to replace X windowing system yet Also, what does X and Wayland have to do with ReactOS in Windows if those graphical systems if designed for *NIX? I know you can run an X server on Windows and run applications there, but it doe...

Sorry if this thread is a bit old, but isn't Wayland supposed to be a replacement for the X windowing system?
