Re: Switching the target to the NT 6.x kernel might save R&D time in the long run

Maybe in 1 or 2 years, NT 5.2 kernel will be almost complete, in order to follow with NT6.1 kernel as fast as they can.... Any detailed technical information about how much of NT 5.2 kernel is complete? And how much of NT 5.2 is still incomplete? Nobody gives an estimation... (example: "according to...

What API call would a program make that couldn't be emulated via a forward-compatibility shim?
Drivers for modern hardware (Windows 7 + and now Windows 10) is a good example. Unless there is some kind of compatibility shim that can emulated NT 6.x driver support under NT5.2 kernel...

Re: USB initial plug and play support wine

With Wine starting to implement initial plug and play support for USB devices does that mean ReactOS might eventually get USB to work fully on the operating system? I occasionally go back and forth trying ReactOS out but every time when I try the setup installation my USB Keyboard constantly freeze...

Re: Bootloader and multi-boot question

FreeLDR can boot Linux kernels (limited to 32-bit bzimage ones) and multiboot-compliant executables directly. Does FreeLoader supports booting Windows 9x(95,98,ME) and Windows 2000,XP,2003 ? What kind of modifications needs in order to boot Windows Vista,7,8,81,10 ? One thing pending is to have Plo...

Re: FL-Studio, Reaper, Tracktion -- music production SW

Hi, Wondering if anyone here succeeded in using FL-Studio (Fruity Loop), Reaper DAW, Tracktion DAW or Ableton Live DAW... all music production software, on ReactOS ? Does ReactOS support ASIO drivers ? I suppose that ReactOS runs well as in VM using say Virtualbox or KVM hypervisors, right ? I've s...

Re: Programs that heavily rely on NT 6.x APIs list

"System requirements: Windows Vista or newer." There are some Windows Vista + programs that are runnable in ReactOS. The point is what applications require a true NT 6.x kernel (even using compatibility shim, NT 5.2 kernel cannot help to run these apps). With software specifically leaving NT5 behin...

Re: Bootloader and multi-boot question

We needs tests... It is assumed that ReactOS can recognize and be booted using Windows XP bootloader, Windows Vista,7,8,10 bootloaders seems not to be recognizable by FreeLoader... A test: What about booting ROS using DOS, FreeDOS and Windows 9x bootloaders? Can ROS recognize Windows 9x bootloaders ...

penguintrace as an useful tool for development

Here´s a tool (for whom that can install it). https://penguintrace.org/intro/ penguinTrace allows you to see how software gets run at a hardware level, showing how the source code maps to assembly and allowing stepping through the program. Maybe it could be used for debugging for small code... :?: h...

Re: Windows Linux includes full Linux OS w/ext4 file system

Two operating systems running under a common hypervisor. Linux and ReactOS. A hypervisor could help manage newer hardware and set up an environment for ReactOS. If Microsoft publicly releases it's WSL 2 Linux as open source, ReactOS can use the same Linux as Windows but not require a license. Targe...
