what a painfully nonsensical thread.

Re: 64bit ReactOS Availability (Latest Firefox + Wine 64)

While you are correct to point out the inaccuracy of my statement. You also have perpetrated an inaccuracy, any kernel that is implemented as an EFI loadable executable can be loaded directly. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/EFISTUB No, I didn't. the point was that having 32 bit UEFI, and 32 b...

Re: 64bit ReactOS Availability (Latest Firefox + Wine 64)

The other thing is a 32bit EFI can't generally load a 64bit kernel
UEFI never loads kernels. OS loaders do. And it's not any different for an OS loader (32 bit efi application) to load the kernel and then switch into a long mode than for the loader on BIOS machines.

oh, look, yet another "specialist". from kindergarten.

this project needs NOT BS-consultants. it needs people that are able and want to implement lacking functionaluity and improve what has been implemented.

Re: Facebook developed a new OOM killer for Linux

The problem is that paging is dangerous at FB scale. Data becames too old and unusable when the time comes to read them back. how is that? data is sycnhronized between these storages (RAM, secondary storage). Once the kernel notices there is too few memory available, it calls Working Set Trimmer, t...

Re: Facebook developed a new OOM killer for Linux

As per my ignorant vision, paging is the way of resolving this problem. if you are such a monstrous corporation running thousands servers with tons of gigabytes of industrial grade SSDs/HDDs' space, it should be way enough to provide space for page files. If you still fill them all up and fly away o...

Re: 64bit ReactOS Availability (Latest Firefox + Wine 64)

Hence: https://reactos.org/wiki/AMD64 It's not like this isn't in the works... But you know, maybe having a stable 32-bit system first is important? May I ask you - do you get what the sarcasm is? First, YES, ROS currently looks like Windows XP/2003 . Guess why? Because that's the current compatibi...

Re: 64bit ReactOS Availability (Latest Firefox + Wine 64)

The other day I downloaded ReactOS 32bit ver 4.8, but after setting it up, it's more or less useless for daily deployment, as it wont run the latest Firefox due to no 64bit support. I wanted to say on my main desktop running Archlinux, Wine 64 runs perfectly if that's any consolation. There's no re...

Re: Facebook developed a new OOM killer for Linux

Windows does not have memory overcommit , but this piece of software might be useful to study to people who wish to create a fork with memory overcommit: https://code.fb.com/production-engineering/open-sourcing-oomd-a-new-approach-to-handling-ooms/ actually that post is not about "overcommit" at al...

Re: Reiser4 FS in React0S

ReactOS is a Windows replacement in a sense it aims two things: "is" and "aims", yes, this. it's not the same. at all. Replacement is an act of replacing something. Or statement of the fact something has been replaced. you are not gonna replace anything. Be at least compatible with Windows software...

Re: Reiser4 FS in React0S

ReactOS has chosen to be a Windows clone It is a almost-fully-compatible open-source Windows replacement , not a Windows-clone. no, you are wrong. it's a clone, since it reproduces (reimplements) ideas/concepts/design/architecture/APIs/conventions/standards/formats/other of the OS. It's the fact. "...

Re: Raspberry Pi Support

We need to make a GCC toolchain with target to ARM64 COFF PE first. It would be kewl of course, but how do you estimate it's "easy"? Edk (Tianocore) for example, somehow, uses ELF->PE translation tools IIRC. despite there is a lot of linaro dudes over there. Probably it's not something trivial. May...

Re: Question about graphical subsystem

Come on! Nobody out here knows where SYSTEM hive gets loaded into?! Awesome. Ok, another question - suppose a platform has two non-adjacent regions for SDRAM in the system space. Do you get what I say? Say 2GB at 0x0000_0000_0000_0000 and 4GB at 0x0000_0001_0000_0000, thus with a 2GB hole between th...

It's not about GUI, but creting a new thread will be stupid.

Does anybody know where SYSTEM hive gets into memory, namely whether it's the non-paged area or paged? On WinXP and ReactOS.

In reality NT acrhitecture has much more security than any unix clone. your set of statements is a stupid parroting copied from MS haters' and linux zealots' psychopathic resources. It is as much irrelevant as it's even not worth of replying to, except pointing you at the stupidity you have been for...
