Windows 10 desktop on Raspberry Pi 3 some open source

Hi, There has been some interest in running ReactOS on ARM processors. There has been for a while an ARM variant of Windows 10 (both IOT and Desktop). The more recent Windows 10 ARM desktop versions include X86 emulation where needed. The Raspberry Pi 3 is a bit old at this point, has only micro SD,...

Re: Trying to get companies to support ReactOS

Look for product developers on Reddit AMA's and request open source drivers for Windows to be used by ReactOS. Your best impression will probably be talking directly to a developer during an ask me anything. Good luck.

Re: Can you help me understand ...

We can hope eventually AMD will release open source for it's various chipsets. Today AMD doesn't really do much 32 bit. Whatever source was released would have to be compiled into 32 bit. However if done, this could make it a lot easier to run ReactOS on entire classes of PC's and laptops. A summer ...

Re: Can you help me understand ...

Your primary use case seems to be gaming. ReactOS isn't yet really stable for this. Not exactly, but my kids are good at video games and prefer a decent graphics card when visiting. Is it a concern to anyone here that open source support is provided by AMD for it's products when running Linux, but ...

Re: Can you help me understand ...

As to whether of not ReactOS is "already a valid windows replacement", that depends on your use-case. If you want your system to be stable, and not occasionally have memory, file system and/or registry corruptions, you're still far better off using Windows, as these sorts of errors occur still occu...

Can you help me understand ...

It may be me, but after trying ReactOS, I set up a Linux Mint with Windows style GUI (available easily from Mint's website), then installed Proton (the Steam Valve variant of Wine). Overall the combination of Mint with Proton seems to run most Windows programs well. What is the benefit, or eventual ...

Re: Google Summer of Code 2019 Ideas

I don't think I'm over-ReacTing, well perhaps I am. Experience has left me damaged by using Google's products in the past, so I am wary. Provenance is important as it points to a direction for the future. You are not over reacting. Google benefits at least from studying ReactOS and it's development...

Re: Google Summer of Code 2019 Ideas

Third target, ANYTHING else missing to get the beta out the door. You need to dispense with this idea once and for all. Nothing anyone does during GSOC is going to deliver a beta, not this year, not next, nor the year after that. It is nonsensical to keep going on about it. Stability improvements w...

USB support through USB C, USB boot, USB PnP, removable and fixed drives supporting all Linux file systems and NTFS. Secondary target, basic HDMI through 1080P video and sound. Third target, ANYTHING else missing to get the beta out the door. Totally open source Chromium (no binary blobs) for React ...

Re: Periodic testing of ReactOS on real hardware.

Until a beta is out, it won't make much difference. Better to work on the beta as a VM only project, until near complete then start testing on real hardware. As it is, no real hardware will be 32 bit single core in a modern real machine. Implementation of multi core, HDMI media, real boot, and a ton...

Re: We urgently need a beta

Back in the day when the machines were big and few (hence VERY expensive) the money could be made there. Users often had microfiche and source code for the OS and we often debugged problems for the maker. But the OS could be a FREEBEE because we paid REALLY BIG $ for the machine on which it ran. Ba...

Re: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx

Here is a demonstration of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx on a laptop with Windows 10 Pro. This is a prototype, but includes a LTE SIM card. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3xvfDACiWs It's 8 cores, 4 high power, 4 low power, 8 GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro. Supposedly can run for days without a recharge. C...

Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux

The above command will start to set up Linux to run on Windows 10. Windows server 2019 will also support Linux. Note GUI's are currently not supported, but a lot of stuff is. NTFS is still the file system, but it appears as a Linux drive to users. Variants of Linux supported from the Microsoft store...
