Re: [BREAKING] CERN’s Microsoft Alternative project

A developer would have to contact CERN project and I am sure that they are probably well aware of ReactOS. I mean, we are posted everywhere these days: linux news, distrowatch, osnews, softpedia, cnet, various wiki pages, phoronix and most recently HelloTux. There is even Facebook, twitter, and redd...

Re: Open source DirectX?

I think what your asking is what Wine is already doing; making a open-source Direct X using OpenGL/Vulkan. Until the day MS decides to open-source Direct X, that is the best we are getting.

Re: Real Hardware

The problem with CPUs these days is that they are now 50% software. Before I bought my Ryzen 1700, I had a FX4200. It wasn't the best cpu, sure, but it could run anywhere because it didn't need all the drivers that AMD now has for Ryzen. My Ryzen 1700 has 5 different drivers needed in order to run o...

Re: Real Hardware

That depends on what you mean by "running" and "real hardware". There are some users who are running ReactOS on real hardware, but from like 2000-2006 era. Surprising my 840 EVO SSD actually runs quite well on ReactOS in AHCI mode. There are lots of bugs, bsods, crashes, etc, though. There is no rel...

Re: Building new systems with ReactOS?

I bought my first SSD over 6 years ago. Infact, I am still using that SSD till this day. I use to think SSDs were a waste of money and didn't really offer much improvement over a hdd, but was I proven wrong really quick. I can transfer files within seconds and boot up windows and linux in ~10seconds...

Re: General Feedback on ReactOS / Testing Results

Well first, you are going to need to prove to the developers you are who you say you are. Start by submitting some small patches to ReactOS on GitHub: https://github.com/reactos/reactos Once the developers have warmed up to you after sometime, then move on to bigger stuff if you want. You might also...

Re: Advertisements on this forum

If ReactOS wants to gain some money, they should look into Handshake airdrops. They have already donated 300K to Debian and 100K to Trisquel, plus last year they donated 400K to GNOME and 1 million to FSF. All they have to do is add the airdrop to their GitHub repo. https://github.com/handshake-org/...

Re: ReactOS on HelloTux?

In case you didn't already know on chat, ReactOS is now officially on HelloTux. https://www.hellotux.com/reactos They will be donating $4 (USD) to each ReactOS item that is sold. Also, they wrote a short blog about ReactOS, too. https://www.hellotux.com/ReactOS_shirts_and_sweaters They will be makin...

Re: Last LibreOffice portable for Windows XP

I am surprised that anyone is still working on OpenOffice. Almost all the OpenOffice developers moved to LibreOffice a few years ago. i think there is only 1 or 2 developers still at OpenOffice with maybe a few code submissions from community members here and there. All the updates have mainly been ...

Re: ReactOS involving in 'GSoC' like event concerning documentation?

Yes, season of docs is separate from GSOC. I think it is a good idea since making professional documentation can be hard and time consuming. It runs on a different timeline, so they both don't interfere with each other. I assume google pays the writters just like they pay students in GSOC, however ...

Re: ReactOS on HelloTux?

After 1.5 months of work, I am pleased to announce that HelloTux just sent me the draft copies of the ReactOS shirts. First image: https://postimg.cc/mh3HwP3H Second image: https://postimg.cc/Nybn4XDk I think they look good. Please note the quality may have been slightly degraded posting to that sit...

Re: Will ReactOS eventually support 16-bit Windows apps?

ReactOS has a process called NTVDM, which allows ReactOS to run 16-bit apps and games. I don't know how completed it is, but I know quite of bit of 16-bit games were running with it. No one is really focused on it right now, as everyone seems to be more focused on fixing MM/CC, 64-bit support, USB/P...

Re: Is it okay, if I upload a pre-configured ReactOS Virtual Machine to archive.org?

I don't see why not.

Ultimately, it might be better for them to integrate Narabot into their GitHub respo so it can just be done automatically, but for now I say go for it.

If it helps, I am currently trying to get ReactOS on HelloTux. I am just waiting for responses and drafts from the developers.
