You're forgetting that companies want to spend the minimum amount of effort possible in software transitions, especially if it's something as big as an OS shift. The more similar ReactOS is to Windows both GUI wise and software compatibility wise, the less headaches for corporations or even small bu...

Theoretically, once ReactOS is more developed, any desktop environment ported over to Windows would be able to run on ROS, so it would be up to the user to decide if they want to go through the effort of installing said ports.

ReiserFS, I'd be iffy about. Had experiences with that on a fairly decent computer. That computer ended up being insanely slow. Reiser4, is a hell of a better idea. ZFS, a debate about this happened in another section that degenerated into an NTFS/ext2/3/whatever debate that I doubt anyone wants to ...

Also, the JRE and JDKs can already be downloaded for free, though separately. If they loosened the licensing, it would mean ReactOS could include the JRE, if the developers felt the need to. Otherwise, there's not much that would directly affect this project.

I've actually tried testing ReactOS on my Via Mini-ITX board. The LiveCD was having problems with the onboard graphics card as far as I could tell. It's entirely possible that at the moment ReactOS' drivers aren't sufficient for Via's stuff. My specs were pretty close to yours, though I didn't even ...

Easiest way to stop them would be a cease and desist email from the ReactOS team, telling them that either they license whatever they derive from ReactOS as GPL as well, or stop using ReactOS code. If they refuse, I'm sure the FSF would be interested in hearing about a project that's violating the G...

Wow. That's certainly an interesting concept. Anyways, I don't see anything about charging to use it, and they also can't "close" the source code, since if they based it off ReactOS, the GPL kind of prevents them from doing that, at least without the permission of the ReactOS team that is.

All of the above talk as been with the installed version, not with the LiveCD. Most of us have the drivers to our respective network cards, which the LiveCD does not, which is how we "implement" our networks. And since the 0.3 RC1 has a lot of work accomplished in the TCP/IP department, the network ...

I actually blue screened my install too, though granted the installation did not go smoothly enough to give me too much confidence. However, my crash involved ntoskrnl.exe instead of tcpip. It involved when I clicked on the Get Firefox link.

Power controls have been spotty for quite some time. I've yet to actually get ReactOS to shut down when I tell it to.

People have managed to get a P4 to 5 or 6GHz, but that's seriously pushing the limit even with liquid nitrogen cooling.

If you combined the custom ISO with an answer file for the installation, all you would do is pop in a CD, boot it, and walk away and let the CD handle the installation. About all you might need to do is enter a name for the computer. That's generally how unattended Windows installations are handled....

Or an ISO creator/editor is used/made available for the end user to image whatever they may need. I think Vista Enterprise is supposed to have that feature, and it would certainly be useful if ReactOS incorporated something like that in the future.
