And not a lot of us care about Aero to begin with. I doubt a high school or a company would drop the money to get the graphics cards needed to fully take advantage of Aero. ReactOS is incredibly small, which helps matters greatly.

DirectX 10 is also a program. Just like DirectX 9. Even if it's only for Vista, that doesn't mean a future version of ReactOS won't be Vista-compatible.

To get KDE to run in ReactOS, just do what you would normally do to get KDE running on Windows. For the space issue, generally it's a good idea to have something else format the HD into FAT32 before trying to install ReactOS onto it. Then you might actually see all the HD.

VIA based processors and etc have been confirmed not to work the majority of the time. I have one and I've yet to succeed in getting ReactOS to run on it.

ATI also didn't open source their drivers because they do license certain technologies for their cards, resulting in them being legally bound to keep certain things secret.

Also, Microsoft charges companies like Dell and Gateway just so they can get access to the code to put up their own bootscreen and customize other aspects of the OS to lean more towards their company.
