Re: running other softwear. programs

I'm consistently amazed at how often people remark that Linux seems "old". Is it because it scrolls text while it boots? The terminal is easy to access? At any rate... If you're just wanting to "test drive" ReactOS, I'd say install a virtual machine environment (my personal favorite is VirtualBox) a...

Re: running other softwear. programs

It's unclear where your issue is - are you not able to boot the ReactOS CD? Or not able to find the disk or partition you want to install it on? I may be wrong, but I don't believe that the ReactOS installer will partition disks for you; you'll have to do that yourself ahead of time. When you can fi...

Re: avoid that reactos is vulnerable to hoax

Don't use software engineering to overcome social engineering problems Exactly. I fear that some warning to users would only encourage conspiracy theorists... Re: Why is it taking so long?

And Linux is plain and ancient looking. Really? I think Ubuntu looks great. Ditto for ElementaryOS. I feel like you haven't looked very far. As to your point, yes, there has been a bit of a moving target that the devs are going after, but it's really about compatability more than looks or start men...

Re: Motto competition (part 1)

I think it really comes down to a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem. It's hard to know what features to push with a motto ("fast", "small", etc) without a real sense of what ReactOS 1.0 is going to end up being like. On the flip side, deciding on a motto now could create a sense of an arbitrary goal ...

Re: ReactOS on a Chomebook?

In the link you posted, it says that there is difficulty in installing Windows on Chromebooks, and that one would be better off buying a laptop with it pre-installed. It even says that the trackpad won't work with Ubuntu as the drivers are missing. I'd take this as a fairly decisive answer to your q...

Whatever the (theoretical) mascot ends up being, assuming it does end up being at all, shouldn't it's name be "Ross"? 8-)

Re: Installing on ext2 filesystem

Ah, I found where ext2 is mentioned on the website. http://www.reactos.org/wiki/File_Systems#ext2 The settings to format a HDD partition to ext2 are already included in the 1st stage setup, but are currently disabled. The ext2 file system driver itself is developed enough that it could be use...

Re: Installing on ext2 filesystem

Hm. I searched the forum before posting, but most references to ext2 not being functional were from 2005-2008. I guess i made the classic mistake of assuming that things had changed without someone explicitly saying as much.

Things to really put ReactOS over the top (IMHO)

This is just a small list of things that I think would be amazing to see. Up/Back buttons in explorer working (maybe this gets fixed with new explorer?) Samba built in Similarly, the ability to resolve hostnames to IPs on a LAN Also, GUI browsing of network machines / shares / printers Ability to jo...

Installing on ext2 filesystem

I downloaded the 0.3.15 install disk iso the other day and went to install it in VirtualBox. As it's been a while since I last installed ROS, I was a little surprised to see the option for an ext2 filesystem (or maybe I never noticed before?). Anyway, I chose the option and told it to quick format t...

Re: ReactOS and floppy drives...

I have also noticed that when running on real hardware the floppy will seek like mad when you open up 'My Computer'. I never had the system crash because of it, nor did I have to insert a floppy to continue, but it would hang briefly while it tried to read a disk. Not a killer, but it was quite anno...
