Microsoft released MS-DOS and Word source code to public

Not sure if this is the right place to put this topic but I thought this could be good information. http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsoft_blog/archive/2014/03/25/microsoft-makes-source-code-for-ms-dos-and-word-for-windows-available-to-public.aspx To get the source code. http://www.computerhistory.org...

Re: Lautus - ReactOS visual style

From my view, with the Lautus theme and the Faenza icons, it looks like a modern & professional OS. It makes it look like ROS as it's own OS and not affiliated with windows, yet still has the feel of Windows. With these visual improvements I can say that it will get a number of people to take an int...

Re: EPIC WIN - Hardware

Hi guys, I managed to get ROS r60196 to install and boot on a Compaq Presario V2000. I'll need to install the drivers and see about getting the trackpad to work. Now I can get ROS to install on real hardware, YAY.

Re: Just a few questions

Hi GingerHunter797 It depends on how you define it as complete. The OS would always need to be worked on as there is always changes, additions and fixes required. But if you wondering how long it will take to get to a 'release candidate' type of working release, it will take many years unless we get...

Re: Seperating Icons from dll to folder

It's all good PurpleGurl :D. I was confused a bit from the comments but it's all clear to me now. I didn't think you were targeting me on purpose and if it sounded like I took offense then my bad.

Re: Seperating Icons from dll to folder

Thanks all for their input. So by the looks of it its mostly due to compatibility and how we want to replicate Windows in almost every way. I just find it odd that Microsoft would have icons embedded in a system file instead of having a dedicated folder for system Icons, but Microsoft have their rea...

Re: Faenza, Faience and Elementry Icons

Faenza contains about 1000 icons, is GPL'd and is quite popular also in the Linux world. I would surely agree with any movement making it possible in ReactOS to switch the icon set to Faenza. Are there any icons missing that ROS would need? sorry I just took reference to the picture on the devianta...

Seperating Icons from dll to folder

Hi Guys,

This may be a dumb question but I am wondering why we don't have the icons in an icon folder instead of shell32.dll? My reason for asking is that wouldn't it be easier to replace/modify icons in an OS if it was in a folder?

Thanks

Re: Re:Fix of the week

That's some good diagnostics ImperialSpectre. Glad to hear you got ROS on real hardware as we really need to test ROS on real hardware. And you should definitely report bugs in Jira just make sure to check for existing issues related to your bug findings before creating an new issue. And suggesting ...

ReactOS-Beta found on Sourceforge

Hi all I would like to point out that there is guy "crank123603" who has released a project on sourceforge called ReactOS-Beta. I've looked through this and all that the user has done is link to the trunk builds ROS page and called them a beta. I'm sure crank has good intentions by making ROS known ...

Re: Faenza, Faience and Elementry Icons

Yea there are installers but they are built for Windows 7/8. The installers replace the dll's and stuff up ROS, I've tried. Unless someone can find one that will work for XP then it may work for ROS. Glad to see there is some interest in these icons. I just find the Tango icons ugly and ROS needs to...

Faenza, Faience and Elementry Icons

Hi Everyone Since this is about icons I thought I'll put this topic into the design section. I've been looking around on the internet for GPL icons (apparently CC based icons are no good to us) and have come across Faenza's icon pack. It was designed for Gnome but the source code contains SVG files ...

Re: Fugue Icons

Thanks everyone for their feedback. The author has PSD files as the source so I'm not sure if that means anything. Also I would note that most of the icons are in 16px by 16px. I asked the author if he has the icons in a bigger size but he unfortunately hasn't at the moment. :(
