Re: Virtual address spaces

With virtual address spaces, modern operating systems and hardware platforms provide mechanisms to isolate concurrently running user applications. Each user application runs within a dedicated address space and interacts in a safe, well-controlled manner with other user applications only via mechan...

Virtual address spaces

Referenced form here: http://genode.org/documentation/general-overview

I was wondering if it was used by Reactos if it would be of any benefit.

Re: Windows problems

1. There is no clear way to distinguish between a user's actions and a program's. If a program is able to elevate to your privilege level, the OS cannot distinguish between the things you directly try to do and the things the application is trying to do. Thus any limitation you want to place on an ...

Re: Windows problems

I will break it down to make it clearer. 1. Apps only use certain system files the rest should not be touch unless an update is being done. So the apps should only have access to what is needed to run. All other files should not be accessable unless a dev needs to or an update. Regular users (ones t...

Re: Recruiting

One word of caution. I saw the comment on hacking sites. We have to be careful there to not get anyone who has seen MS code for whatever part they propose to work on. There are a few hacking sites that write code from scratch and those are the ones I was aiming at. As for the MS code as long as the...

Re: Recruiting

I would suggest hacking sites or project sites.
Asking an admin to advertize or add a post to link here might bring in others that are willing to take on a project or submit patches.

Re: Windows problems

MS made something simmilar. They call it User Account Control. Ya but the problem with it is it does not warn users that an app is trying to access or change system criticle files that really it should have no rights to. Which falls under the user opens app. App asks for permission and user says ok...

Re: Windows problems

There can be provided some way (say, boot option, registry key) to turn off this feature. I simply discuss the idea… I do not say — devs, implement it! registry key would be bad as hackers already change those with ease. boot would be bad as well as hackers could easily add a program to the boot se...

Re: Windows problems

I have been searching sites for kernel hacking. From what I have read they loop a piece of memory in kernel and hook the driver they are using. Which acts like a relay to execute their code in the kernel space. Example: Loop mem, hook driver, send code to manipulate other memory space to do what you...

Re: Windows problems

1. System registries really should not change unless for updates to the os or do apps really have to change them? e.g. System registries no app should be allowed to change so locking them and require a password for updates. 2. Again nothing should be able to change these files except updates and sof...

Windows problems

I do not program so these are some things I thought might be useful as well as things i wanted to understand better. 1> Registry: Seems like most problems are caused by install and uninstall of programs which change system entries. Could you lock all system registries and if apps needed to change an...
