Re: ARM MMU Support For ReactOS
Some in the past have casually implied that ReactOS will not port to ARM because ARM does not have an MMU. This is simply false . 1. There are ARM CPUs which don't have a MMU 2. Considering that the ROS ARM team already managed to boot ReactOS a bit on a iPod it's false to state that ReactOS will n...

Re: What do we expect from ROS?
Based on some light research I have done, the security of Unix-like is the implementation of multi-user environment and the principle of least privlege, as well as some other things that make malware difficult to spread. Can these be implemented in ReactOS without losing Windows functionality? The ...

Re: NT 6.x Features?
Windows XP - NT 5.1 * Released October 25, 2001 * Extended support until April 8, 2014. Windows 7 - NT 6.1 * Released October 22, 2009 * Extended support until January 14, 2020. Interesting to see how the support window shrinks (and sad, with Win7 seems to me that there's less maintenance work in l...

Re: Explorer enhancements
I like Raymond Chen's blog and the insights it gives (I've also read his book).Z98 wrote:Raymond Chen has several blog posts about the impracticality/difficulty of a "always on top" window setting and the ensuing fight between applications that all want to be on top.

Re: Mono support
A mod manager written by the community for an (now) old game needed .Net which was my first contact with that Framework back in 2003 or so (I downloaded it with a Modem back then ;) ). Fallout Mod Manager? No, (Star Trek) Bridge Commander Mod Installer (BCMI for short) :) That's the kind of app I t...

Re: Mono support
Im still using XP without .Not. Can you tell me 3 "Apps" you need? The modern Delphi IDE need .Net and I needs the IDE for compatibility tests for Free Pascal. Paint.Net, which I prefer to Gimp (and the costly Photo Shop) Some Microsoft development tools and applications (e.g. Visual Stud...

Re: r58894
But ints are the same in all architectures I know (32 bit signed integers) and wchar is defined always as a two bytes char, because it's an unicode character. There are a few platforms where int is 64 bit (see here ). Also int is 16 bit on 16-bit x86 and AFAIK you can set it to 8 bit in the AVR com...

Re: Using linux drivers in reactos !
After my studies I'll start working at a company that has developed their own microkernel that is definitely different from Unix. I've already had different occasions during my studies to play around with it. One of the tasks I'll be doing then is to add support for Linux drivers as well (because u...

Re: Using linux drivers in reactos !
Any approach that tries to shove in a Linux hardware stack instead of just drivers themselves would require essentially a rewrite of the kernel and reducing compatibility with Windows drivers. We are never going down that route. And this is what I doubt. And when I have the time (approximately star...

Re: Using linux drivers in reactos !
I still dont get it. One of the main approaches of ROS is to use Windows drivers, because they are generally easier to obtain. If you wanna use Linux drivers, then you should use Linux + Wine Think about the x86_64 and ARM ports here. For the former its less likely to get drivers for older hardware...

Re: Using linux drivers in reactos !
Even ignoring the technical challenges, no one has presented an argument of why this is in any way beneficial. Windows already has wider hardware support. Completing support for the Windows kernel interface would get us access to much more hardware than any equivalent effort to getting Linux driver...

Re: When will 0.3.15 release?
I want a smartphone that comes with absolutely no VM , of any kind, anywhere. When the customer (who happens to be a software engineer), takes the phone out of the box, and hits the power button, s/he spend three days hunting around the OS, trying to find a VM of any kind, but is unsuccessful. Ok, ...

Re: When will 0.3.15 release?
I am trying to arrive at a situation where the image that is generated by my C/C++ is code is eaten by the CPU, and only by the CPU. I do not want a software interpreter of any kind in between eating the bytes of my image. And this is the case on Android. Your code compiled to a binary assembly lan...
