I'm suggesting no such thing. At the very least we should ask the DragonFlyBSD people their opinion on this issue.

It's not trademarked, is it?

Besides, a dragonfly as mascot would be so appropriate for ROS (re MSFT's butterfly), that it would be a real shame not to use it.

I like that design, Harteex! :)

A dragonfly has many advantages as a mascot:

- it's recognized by virtually everyone
- it's relatively easy to draw
- it can be made to look cute
- it can be made to look professional
- etc.

'x64' sounds like a bastard version of x86 ;)

Re: More developers!

Talking about the need for more developers, perhaps writing open letters or requests to the regional computer magazines in the countries that we live in can create an interest for ReactOS among programmers in our countries. I guess that when anyone can intstall a network enabled ROS with a webbrows...

Reacty! [img]http://toastytech.com/data/reacty.png[img] I'm just joking! :) I think the current atom logo is very professional, original, and should not be changed or substituted. You do realize that you'll now be lynched by an angry mob of frustrated Office users, don't you? Just kidding...

Copying and pasting the urls into the address bar doesn't work either. I only get a blank error page.

[ Irked ] It's AMD64 (A64) now, not x86-64, an never was "x86_64"!!! [ / Irked ] AMD64 is the marketing name. To developers it's still x86-64: http://www.x86-64.org/documentation I also prefer to use the latter, because it's the manufacturer-neutral, most descriptive term (x86 with 64-bit extension...

I think porting to other platforms is the stupidest thing we could do at this stage of very early development. There are simply too many problems to solve, and that takes time - time we need to get the x86 version working. I fully agree. Developing an application simultaneously on two or more platf...

Mascots (Like the Linux Penguin) might leave the impression that a product is more of a toy than a professional application. Thats why it was decided that a technical logo would be better than some animal (IIRC ;-)) Well, having a fat, happy penguin as a mascot doesn't seem to have harmed Linux muc...

BTW, my favourite animal is a crow, mostly because they're so incredibly clever. A four-winged crow, painted in Windows logo colors? :-) Personally I don't think you can make a crow look as sexy and affectionable as a fat little pengiun :-) Alright, how about a dragonfly, then? http://en.wikipedia....

How were those mascots for Linux, *BSD, etc. chosen, anyway? BSD daemon is a, well, a Unix daemon. You become a daemon when you fork into background. That's obvious. Linux's Tux was chosen because Linus liked penguins :) There are several articles on the history of Tux in the net, just google. I so...

Re: Mascot for ReactOS

What about a tiger? Windows is considered by many a strong but dangerous beast with unpredictable traits. What ReactOS devs are doing is taming the beast, so if I were to choose from feline, I'd vote for a cat rather than a tiger. :) Oh, I like this idea! :) Tiger is taken by Apple anyway. W...
