ext2 not actived by default, ... how can i activate it?

Latest reactos newsletter 39 states that ext2 driver is partly (or fully ?) functional, but not active by default. Is it for now functional as addon in a windows system only, or also in reactos? 1. As i'm always willing to try out new things, i ask how activate it before (on the bootCD), during or a...

How activate the "explorer-new.exe"? Does it work?

I was just curious to activate the new explorer in reactos and test it. I first tried to change the GUI executable name in the registry, to "explorer-new.exe". No efffect, i think the registry was not saved by regedit.exe? Then i did it the rough way. Renamed "explorer.exe" to "explorer.old", and "e...

freeldr.img? bootsector and sys?

>a copy of freeldr.img and replaced the freeldr.sys and freeldr.ini on it with the ones from the cd. 1. where get freeldr.img? 2. If you have a freeldr.img, and replace the incorporated freeldr.sys with a freeldr.sys from reactos build tree or from a reactos cd, you can't be sure that this sys is co...

>By the way: Why does it need a hard disk if it is a Live CD? I thought it could run just from CD... @lobster one of the reasons for starting the liveCD reactos in qemu or vmware virtual PC, not on real hardware, could be that your real PC has USB mouse and keyboard, not yet recognized nor accessed ...

How display number? Where find build number if not displayed

I would be glad for answers on 2 questions: In early versions of reactos, there was an option in the taskbar properties for displaying the reactos version and/or build number in the lower right corner of the desktop. This checkbox has been removed a long time ago. Has the display option itself also ...

RosBE unix excellent work!

RosBE for unix is a great tool. Now i can finally compile reactos under the same host OS where i use it virtually with qemu (suse linux 64 bit) no more problems due to incompatible suse gcc or other package versions, or due to 64bit versions no more need to copy the reactos source tree to a FAT part...

virtual ISO's for copying

>Very frustrating when the only way someone can tranfer files is by burning CD after CD. If you experiment with reactos in a virtual environment, you can accelerate the process a bit. most cd burning programs have an option "create image only" that does only the first step of cd creation, the image ...

virtual or real hardware?

Are you trying tio install in qemu? Then you must first prepare a virtual disk file with "qemu-img" and define it when starting qemu (qemu ..... -hda <your virtual disk> -cdrom <the reactos iso file> Are you trying to install on real hardware? Then your error message sounds as if you have an active ...

loop device is one possibility (in linux)

As a linux user, i do not have the option of installing a windows tool for accessing a virtual disk image. Most time i use, for copying, a knoppix cd image on qemu with 2 virtual hdds, one is the virtual disk, the other is my 2nd real hdd. And for performance reasons i start knoppix in mode 2 (conso...

OT: FAT patent problem also for hardware!

If Microsoft was to enforce it's FAT patent, major problems would arise not just for reactos and linux, but also for number of hardware manufacturers: usb memories, mp3 players, cameras, external harddisks are often preformatted with FAT. In case the patent is enforced, then all these devices may no...

RosBE linux version also good for 64bit linux?

two questions 1. Does the RosBE1.1 linux version work on 64bit linux systems, or can it only be installed on 32bit linux? Does reactos compile correctly with RosBE1.x on linux 64bit now, whereas it had frequent problems on manually set up build environments on 64bit in the past? 2. Does RosBE for li...

Don't need to burn a DVD

If you install reactos on a qemu or vmware virtual PC, you don't need to burn the CD. Attach the iso image as a virtual CD.

If you install on real hardware, you can burn a CDRW instead of CDR, and reburn the same disk many times. :)

Maybe it just freezes in the uncompress? Envir. variables?

I suggest you install RosBE on windows, and then simply copy the whole RosBE tree into reactos. Maybe you also have to copy some environment variables, or references from $PATH...? But how can we set environment variables in reactos for now? In trunk or in version 0.3.3, is this menu already availab...
