and av programs?

my suggestions: 1. be careful: don't leave viruses behind on a hdd partition after these tests 2. i suggest that this is the ideal occasion for testing if any antivirus software is compatible with reactos at this time: i suppose norton antivirus is not, because "directx" and the IE are mandatory for...

avldr "cannot find ntoskrnl.exe"

I have meanwhile tested "avldr.exe" for booting reactos on a FAT32 partition on 2nd primary partition of first HDD, partition which also contains Win98. So I can dual-boot reactos or win98 with avldr. Unfortunately when booting reactos, freeldr reports me that it cannot find "ntoskrnl.exe", though i...

Question about the dual-sector file FAT32.BIN boot record.

Still fighting with installing Reactos with manual workarounds (because the CD ISO installer hates inactive primary NTFS partitions) i did the following: In win98 build reactos with the help of the "reactosBE environment", then i have c:\reactos. I then change the FREELDR.INI to boot from the good p...

NTFS / FAT

Three big disadvantages of FAT: - no security - limited to 2GB - no journaling features FAT32 is not limited to 2GB, but linux kernel support for FAT32 is limited to 2GB!! So you have a big problem if you have a >2GB FAT32 partition for Reactos, and a linux on the same machine. Using the original NT...

Hidden partitions...

@gasmann >Even though the partitions are hidden, they're still there. And even hidden, they prevent REACTOS installer from doing it's job? Should i change the type of these partitions from "hidden NTFS" to something like "undefined" or so? (i can lookup possible partition type codes in linux fdisk) ...

primary partitions

@chorns

My primary partitions were defined as follows when i tried to install reactos:
1st NTFS inactive and hidden
2nd FAT32 active + fresh formated
3rd NTFS inactive and hidden

So reactos should have installed on 2nd?

Installer multiple-partition compatible, when?

One annoying problem is that the ISO installer CD doesn't manage to install REACTOS if there is more than one primary partition, and one or 2 of them NTFS. I have Win2000 on 1st primary, Win98 on 2nd primary, and a test-environment of Win2000 on 3rd. Suse Linux is somewhere in a logical partition, a...

Which bootsector in "loader" is what?

I have a problem installing "reactos" from the ISO CD in the automatich setup way, though it boots and starts the setup. Setup not compatible to multiple primary or logical partitions, it fails when creating the boot sector on HDD, and a fresh formated diskette for creating a freeldr diskette is sim...

Should I "hide" NTFS partitions? + What about LILO

I have now tested the 0.2.6 LiveCD and i'm positively surprised: :D This version no longer hangs because of my primary partition definitions: hda1 = ntfs hda2 = fat32 hda3 = ntfs So i can hope that the ISO CD installer 0.2.6 will also work. But should i set all NTFS partitions, not only hda1 and hda...

slow cdrom...

@Sarocet >Yes, it is. It's a problem for ANY cd booted system. If the time the BIOS checking if it is bootable is less than the time the CD drive takes into reading it, it will pass it, going to Hard Disk. I understand. I supose this is simply a "priority problem" if BIOS boots directly from CD or H...

Create installation floppys manually?

Winnt.exe and Winnt32.exe copy, for WinNT4, a set of vital things from the Win NT4 CD to 3 floppies, in order to make an installation without booting from the CD. Having myself still unsolved install problems due to old BIOS not booting CD's, suppose that I want to create in case of Reactos such flo...

@sonny73044 Hi, I have tried the solution with "Bootable CD loader v1.50Z" bcdl150z.zip, but it didn't work for me. I copied various CDROM drivers to the floppy. But none worked. I hoped that especially "vide-cdd" or "oakcdrom" would work, but not! (I did rename "oakcdrom" because it's name was not ...

Reactos uninstallable with non-CD-booting BIOS...?

Hi, I still have big problems to install reactos 0.2.5 on an old machine not capable of booting from a CD. First I tried what was proposed in a thread in this forum with "smart boot manager", supposed it could do what the old BIOS cannot do itself, but it systematically brought "error xAA" when acce...

Freeldr IMG

Thanks for the advice. I will try.

But one other question:
Why are new freeldr images generated at each Reactos snapshot build? Is every freeldr image only compatible to the binary core of that build? Or is a freeldr image compatible to any binary? For instance to one of the stables like 0.2.4?
