Why an NT kernel?
Why would i use an NT kernel with a KDE GUI? NT kernel and NT GUI go together. In fact most users will take Reactos for it's future compatibility with windows executables. So i suppose these windows programs not only need an NT kernel but also an NT compatible GUI. On the other hand linux programs, ...

mingw32make clean ... tried did, did not work
Well. I had tried "mingw32-make clean" from within current directory "/svn/trunk/reactos" because "make clean" is standard in unix/linux make. It did not work with my "mingw32-make" in RosBE build environment. (?) Error messages like following for all tree branches. .../... mingw32-make: [welcome_cl...

How to "clean" my private SVN tree?
My problem: i have a local SVN tree copy which i synchronize from time to time "head revision" with the SVN server. Unfortunately some weeks ago, being short of diskspace, i deleted the "export tree" and since compile directly in the SVN trunk ... which i know i should not have done (mea culpa). Que...

"blue.c" change tried, but no effect
Hi, here i am again with some news... i have looked at the driver source "blue.c" and changed the value "0x17", supposed to be the colour parameter for the VGA grafic card in 16 colour mode. High-order byte for background, low byte for forground (writing). But with an alternative value (lets say 0x5...

2 questions about colours...
Fan of personalized desktop i would like to know how - i can change the reactos desktop colour, or other desktop colours, knowing that the properties menu is still missing, and that i may need to tamper the registry or recompile a source... :) - similar question for the "blue screen" boot / shutdown...

Double-click not working in open / save dialog
I would appreciate advice in a problem with the "open file"-dialog and the "save-as"-dialog: Double-clicking the left button of the mouse does not act as usual in windows, it does nothing. So i cannot open a listed file by doubleclicking, but must write manually the name. And even worse i ca...

bootsect.ros
>Is there a file called bootsect.ros or do ihave to make one by hand? There is no pre-made bootsect.ros you can use on the fly. Normally one could think that the first 512 bytes of fat32.bin were one, but it did not work. When i tried to copy bytes 1-512 into the "bootsect.ros", the partition got de...

Command-line easier?
I think it would be easier to do recover in command-line, isn't it? One could imagine sort of a "reactos single user console" or "reactos command line console" for special actions like recovery, backup, restore, registry repair or optimizing... The probable advantage is that command line works with ...

Installing Reactos by building the sources
I have just answered in another thread how i installed reactos from sources due to unsolved problems (multiple primary partitions) with the bootcd.
http://reactos.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=830
Maybe that can help you. Caution: the manual boot setup is rather complicate.

Reactos ISO installing
As you describe the problem and the symptoms of the free, i ask if you have more than one primary partition, or if your active primary partition is NTFS (XP or Win2000) I had similar experiences: Actually reactos can only be installed on a primary FAT16 or FAT32, not on NTFS. Moreover the ISO instal...

Mount a partition?
@oiaohm
Concerning my question about ext2, and your answer:
Can you tell me pls how to mount an "ext2" partiton, in Reactos?
And is it also possible to mount an "ntfs" partition with the ntfs driver existing now, READ-ONLY of course?

What is important about security...
a) file, directory and device protection by either ACL's similar to Windows, or by users+groups if that is more simple to implement in a ReiserFS (?) b) network security. For me that means Reactos should either become compatible with common personal firewalls, once network part ready, or Reactos cou...

"Language Default setting exists, but isn't readable&am
I compiled, built and set up reactos from sources recent build 16371. When rebooting the upset reactos, freeldr always stops on an error "Language Default setting exists, but isn't readable", and i do not manage to start reactos. This message is issued by the "reactos.c" module of freeldr. Looks as ...
