Re: Appreciation to Developers

When Windows is detected, "convert" should appear instead of "update".

Re: ReactOS updater

Microsoft, unlike Intel, keeps available the downloads of unsupported updates around for a long time.

Re: ReactOS updater

I don't know if Windows Update is the only thing that needs BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service).
ReactOS and Windows updaters are not required to be compatible, as you are not allowed to pick and choose parts to mix and match.

Anyone attending to "I am system" talk?

They discussed a security vulnerability, getting SYSTEM access on Windows. Unable to access recordings. Anyone attending this CCC talk?

Re: SAMBA, Cygwin, and appcompat

Is the ultimate goal being functional and API compatible, or being indistinguishable including replicating major vulnerabilities that were ultimately eliminated It is something between the two, according to previous discussions. The problem is we just do not know how much we can modify or extend Wi...

Re: Wayland gives ReactOS new life?

Re: REACTOSE - Proposal for annual ReactOS conference

Yes, the ReactOSers would showcase the ReactOSe (the sweet parts of ReactOS, like fructose of fruits) in ReactOSe.
We could follow a format similar to WinOps, the Windows DevOps Conference.

REACTOSE - Proposal for annual ReactOS conference

Many software topics have their own conferences. Why do we lack such a conference? What could be improved during such conferences?

Re: Possibilities For NTVDM and other Sub-Systems

I have the necessary and sufficient coding skills, but lack the necessary time (it's very difficult to be a combined research&administrative assistant in one university and doctoral student in another, and more difficult to find a suitable contiguous timespan to make significant (non-toy) contributi...

Re: Possibilities For NTVDM and other Sub-Systems

It is a future plan. ReactOS will/is going to (read whatever way you wish) have several distributions. ReactOS CORE is the name for a distribution including two common Windows userlands: win32, .NET. ReactOS Minimal is the most minimal usable subset of ReactOS, and its scope is yet to be determined;...

Re: Possibilities For NTVDM and other Sub-Systems

ENIW, unlike Wine or WSL 1, would delegate to Linux using a kernel-mode subsystem, and unlike WSL 2, will not use virtualisation, would instead use thunking to user-mode instance of Linux (this is no problem for us, because both are licensed under GPL 2). ELF interpretation is just a part of it. Thi...
