Re: ReactOS is no threat to Windows.

avatarpatch you are missing somethings critical. In a lot of countries we don't need MS's approval to run there Direct X. Same kernel fixes will have to be done to run MS Direct X as run our own clone. Critical one ros is still 2 to 3 years off production use. Linux is not that long of business prod...

Re: embedded ROS?

Not for a while yet tomleem many key things are missing. Linux kernel only recently added some of what the embedded guys use. Realtime scheduler addition for that. Embedded OS's need lots of different things. Reason why Windows in the embedded market is contained to a small section the OS need to be...

Re: Proof all compiles with Visual Studio

Ged read closer. The cause of the binaries it produces being crap is that its linker does not optimise. And I mean it does not optimise at all other than really basic stuff. Build speed yes that is a snail. I use gcc embeded at times. The thing is fine as long as you can pass it all the source files...

Re: Security Software

Linux provides one of its own as a mount option. On the secure overwriting. There are more important things to worry about. Currently ros does not have functional multi user secuirty. Do you know the most common screw up when someone overwrite a directory is. Normally the files they are destroying a...

Re: FreeDOS / nevasca + ReactOS collaboration?

First thing lets see if they live. Next thing Reactos can already run dos inside it using dosbox. No its not possible to do what colinux does with freedos. Dos applications are masters of there own path. Linux you have a single memory controller you can direct to where ever you want. Major problems ...

Re: Proof all compiles with Visual Studio

Sorry to have to burst a myth on you cmoibenlepro. Mingw is the same in optimisation as gcc. Only different is mingw static links more. Guess where gcc is bad. Static linking there is no real difference here if you do it on Linux you pay just as bad. Issue is to be addressed by http://gcc.gnu.org/wi...

Re: Interest in a ReactOS Solaris branded zone?

I am sorry to say you don't really understand what you are looking at. Zones are solaris containers or Linux cgroups. Now BrandZ extends this to be able to take in what Windows Subsystems can do as well. A win32 subsystem in there most likely would not have a NT kernel and be like Wine in a lot of w...

Re: Security Software

Ok Reactos is not exactly copying the Linux Distribution model. Closest you would get is a way of reactos downloader working with a new live/install cd production tool to produce a disk user wants. So basically not a Distribution. Its here the core and some tools to roll your own model. Working to t...

Re: The install from LiveCD approach

http://www.reactos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2120 Sorry Jeronimus Linuxius I was reading two topics at once and cross mixed the answered. In the wrong one. The merge between live and boot has been on the cards for a long time. Of course. According to Rice's Theorem, there's no general solution ...

Re: REcruting more devs

The thing I am pointing out MTYSPIDER is that we are not alone in the open source world going after that market. Linux BSD solaris with samba 4 help will be going after exactly the same market. It will not be just beat Microsoft. It will be match up to at least some of the data security features the...

Re: REcruting more devs

Linux/Windows System Admin. I have to know both reasonably well. Be aware there are quite a few people like me out there. cppm BSD was late into the clustering game. Missed the boat on lots of big high end cluster backing causing them to fall to where they are now. Yet on raw performance freebsd sti...

Re: REcruting more devs

Point is be careful of wording of stuff not to include myths. Samba is working on a ADS(active directory server) for Linux and other posix systems in the form of Samba 4. Biggest weakness in the Linux network attached storage(NAS) market is the missing ADS to control windows clients. Coding a ADS is...

Re: REcruting more devs

Using complete myths are not wise either. Selection of linux distribution for the task completely avoids having to know many commands. To be correct its point and click like windows. Lack of ads makes it hard for Linux to manage windows clients. Everything else like web server is point and click in ...

Re: Safe in Reactos

http://www.truecrypt.org/ and http://keepass.info/download.html and others exist in the open source world all ready.

Don't really see a need other than to add them to the ros downloader for people to install if they want.
